BMW 2006 R1200 RT Rear Drive Noise
« on: May 03, 2017, 07:43:53 PM »
Would anyone have an idea where the rear drive sound would emanate from? Hopefully you can see/hear the video. Does our club know anyone in PG that has some experience or knowledge about this model of bike?

Try putting the bike on the center stand and then rotate the wheel.  You'll probably feel the generated sounds coming from the rear drive mechanism as it sounds like the speed of the clicking is in tune with the hypoid bevel gear and not the drive gear?

That's an odd one for sure!  Let me know how it turns out.

Why be normal?

A: nice bike! B: call me or drop by and I'll come over and look at it. CHEERS.

Same as this......

Final drive needed to be replaced, bearing and pinion gear.

Another post I read is if the crown bearing is replaced and incorrectly shimmed, it will eat itself up very quickly.

After watching Hans link it certainly sounds identical to sheps noise. There are a number of vids for disassembley and rebuild of that rear end on YouTube.
