an interesting book
« on: January 12, 2012, 12:49:35 PM »
This probably does not fit in with motorcycle stuff but it is interesting any ways.  For those who build things from scratch this might be for you.  My son just bought a book called The Toaster Project by Thomas Thwaites.  This guy wondered what makes a toaster work and what it was made of.  He took one apart and found it was made of some 404 separate parts.  So he decided to make a toaster himself from scratch.  But he did not go out and buy parts.  What he did was go and mine some iron ore and smelt it for the toaster body and made other parts from raw materials also.  A very interesting read and makes one think of what is involved in producing all the products that we use everyday including the motorcycles in our shops.  Anyways just thought some of you out there would be interested in this book.

"They Way Things Are Made" is one of my favourite TV shows for the same reason.
