CMDRA Drags
« on: July 11, 2011, 11:23:38 AM »
Hi.  I met some of you at the show & shine, found your website and got signed on.  I took a lot of shots at the drags and see some of you are interested in that event.  Here is a link to some of my pictures.  I really like drag bikes and the smell of Nitro.....Mike

Maybe it is because they are going "National" and the east is replacing some of the west.  Last year they had a "National " which was the west, as well as an eastern division. Here is their schedule as I found it.

2012 CMDRA Race Schedule

1. Napierville Quebec, Rendezvous Nationals May 26 - 27
2. Cayuga Ontario, Eastern Nationals June 1 - 2 (Friday Saturday)
3. Edmonton Alberta, Spring Nationals June 9 - 10
4. Ashcroft, British Columbia, Sturgis North Nitro Nationals July21 - 22
5. Medicine Hat Alberta, Badland Nationals August 3 - 5
6. Mission British Columbia, Summer Nationals August 18 - 19
7. Edmonton Alberta, Season Finals September 8 -9

As long as they still have the Friday night drags, I'll be happy.  I didn't spend a year building my drag bike just to practice my welding skills.

It was great to see the CMDRA here last summer after so many years of a hiatus.  Back when they were an annual event, I came up from 100 Mile House just for the weekend festivities.  Of course, in those days that included hanging out at the Columbus Hotel.   I even stayed there once and partied with the strippers.  Them were the days...

Peace & Grease, Dennis

I was talking to Morris Bruce tonight, and he was talking to Len at the Harley dealer today, and reports that Len said the track needs rehabilitation before the really fast bikes (200 mph) will run here again - when they had the Pro-Mod cars here a few years ago, there were some similar-sounding problems above 190 mph.   Little bumps are big ones above 150 mph.  Anyway, this is the reason Len gave Morris that the CMDRA wasn't happening here...

I heard much the same thing. The dip in the tower side lane was what made them leave in the first place. Like Dennis I also partook in the good old days of raucous revelry and nekkid girls. Damn we had some good times!! One year Todd came on his ironhead Sportster. Had mine then too and another fellow from out west named Kevin who also had an ironhead(evos weren't invented yet). On our way in from the track Kevin and I ended up side by side in front at tenth and the bypass. The race was on!! Never saw him. Turned out he took it to about 4 grand and dumped the clutch, breaking his chain. Bunched up in the cover, destroying it then up to his electric starter(lucky bastard) which effectively turned it into a parts bike. Put my front wheel against his back one and "nudged "him  back to my house where he made arrangements for that number one Harley accessory, a truck.

I think I have pictures (of the drags, not the girls...lol) to prove it, too. If I can find them. They are the old fashioned, hard copy type.

New guy here...  Do you guys meet at the drag strip on Fridays usually?
Haven't been there yet but would enjoy meeting and chatting with club members.  Please let me know if it's a regular thing and if they sell hot dogs and fries there!

I have taken lots of photos in the past and have been out 2 times this year, did not notice others from this site there, but I do not know everyone here.  I have heard some talk of members going out, definately a good way to spend a Friday evening.  They definately have burgers, did not see any hot dogs the last time I was there.  Drinks are cheap at a buck each.  The track is at the turnoff with the drivein theater sign, and that is getting harder to spot with the vegitation growth around it....

Last time a bunch of club members went to the Friday night digs was a couple of years back - Hans, Fritz, Fast1, and I took our air-cooled dinosaurs out to get waxed by a kid on a modern GSXR750.  Hans'  FJ1200 was the only one of our bikes to run in the 11's that night - though it did this after accumulating almost 100,000 km...  it was a fun night.
