Meeting venue
« on: March 02, 2011, 07:47:31 AM »
The club has lost it's long time meeting venue with the Legion being closed on Tuesdays and it's near future in doubt. The last couple of meetings have been held upstairs at Shooters Pub on Brunswick street. There has been some opposition to using this venue due to various reasons.
Ron has made arrangements with the owner of the Treasure Cove Casino to have free usage of the show lounge area at the casino for the monthly meetings, he has been told there will be full bar and kitchen service for any who are interested.
The use of the casino may be cause for some members to have either a moral or other reason to discontinue attending club meetings.
If this is a concern for you, let me know as there are other venues we could explore.

Kaziff doesn't intend this thread to become a public poll on venues, but for the record, I'd as soon stay where we are; Shooter's seems to be accomodating our needs (except for adiosing the pool table) as best they are able, and just as they said they would.  No harm in keeping an eye open for an ideal venue for our purposes, but I'd rather park my motorcycle in front of Shooters than at the Casino, when that time comes.  We've already gotten a sense how they feel about motorcycles, and our club, at the Casino.

Although not a poll I agree with Rusty and am quite content with Shooters and it would be nicer if the pool table went.

HEH..HEH... ;D  although NOT a Poll....I will also not express my Public Opinion on the Meeting Location....

Always Prepared for DEATH parking and walking Downtown after Dark in Canada's #1 City.....Liked the Parking Lot at the Legion...having the window to look outside and see that No "YOUNG" was messing with my Ride..
At shooters at least you can keep your Hat on...Can't see your Bike
Not feeling the Lack of Love from the Casino...Parking lot there seems more secure to me than 6AVE....Although I did miss the show last summer when my Yamaha wouldn't Start.... ;D
Gonna Miss the Legion ....

Since this continues not to be a poll, I will be brief.
I also think Shooters is okay for now, provided the pool table is removed (as indicated by Donovan).
I would always have the concern that the casino may need their show room on a Tuesday night and we would have to move our meetings a couple of times a year.

Hmm;  the 'not-a-poll' extreme-casual poll seems to be running at about even... in terms of absolute 'security', I'm sure the casino parking lot is miles ahead - after all, it was 'security' that had so much input into our display last year.  They seemed to take a real interest in what goes on in their area of influence.

As a casual bystander, it seems that I read of a club meeting place around Dogwood street that has a high fence and plenty of security. Perhaps they would sublet once a month. There is probably a variety of refreshment available as well.   ;D

Or maybe not.

Rusty I think you might be right about the security issue.  I am not sure how much of an issue it will be at the Shooters location but it would be nice to know that there are people watching out for any thing untoward that might be occurring in there vicinity.  If  security will be an issue then the Casino would be the better place to meet.  I guess we could give it a try and see how it works out and if we feel welcome there.

As for Dogwood we could all get our pictures taken for free by the rcmp. Have a standing invite and have never been. Soon as you go there you are an "associate" open to all sorts of extra hassle by the man. I would still go to meetings at the casino, however I'm not in favor of their brand of poison. Place ruins more lives than any bar. So I guess what I'm getting at is a preference for the lesser of 2 evils. Also at the casino we would have a huge space too ourselves--I like other people and background noise. Just my 2 cents worth.

Seriously though (Dogwood was weak attempt at humour), it would seem from the previous comments that Shooters tends to be the most popular, with reserves about security. Having worked at the Telus/B C Tel building on the other corner for over thirty years and having left the bike parked out front a lot. Nobody ever bothered it, or the others there.
Also for the months that the bikes would be ridden, keep in mind that it is daylight until late at evening. By which time you should be either home in bed or have a designated driver.  :) The rest of the time if the weather is like this, you will be using dog sleds. And who messes with a hungry Husky??

I had the impression most responses would indicate that we stay at Shooters if possible (over the Casino). Security of the bikes being the only real issue.
I have asked Ron to discuss this with Geordie, possibly we could use the back conference room at Shooters, no pool table and the room looks
directly over the rear parking lot. not sure if this is a paid lot after hours or not, any comments?

I'd prefer Shooters.  I echo Fast1's comments about the casino.  That place is the root of much evil.  Legalized gambling is the government's way of taxing the poor and desparate.  They willingly allow middle class people to blow thousands of dollars which they cannot afford.   Of course, taxing booze is the same, but its my preferred way of dealing with my poor life and desparation.  I guess I could take up gambling.

I live with fear and danger everyday, but sometimes I leave her at home and go motorcycling.
