Lap dance.
« on: October 09, 2010, 06:07:01 PM »
Anybody have any valve lapping stuff they are willing to sell or loan me?  Looking for a stick and compound.  Got a pretty blank look at Lordco when I went and asked, and couldn't find anything at Princess Auto.  Jeff has my cylinder head and he has started a porting job on it.

thanks

Hans

Can drop mine off when I come through town on the 21st and pick it up on the 26th when I come back if that works for you. Plan on stopping at Bulldogs to say hi if he's home anyway so could leave it there.

Hey Bob. That would be great and would likely fit my timeline perfectly. I'm on the west side of town in College Heights so I could meet you on the way through. I'll hive you a call nearer to your departure date to make arrangements.

Cheers

Actually Hans,

Jeffs got lapping compound at his place, and I'm sure he wouldn't mind if ya used some. He's got two different grades too.  When I did my valve seats , over there, we used a piece of 1/8 rubber hose "on a stick" and put the other end on the valve stem then turned it with a drill. It worked well, and I finished with the fine grit compound.

    hope this helps.... :)

Agree with Parker:  I have some compound and a sucker-stick, but nobody has more of that type of stuff than Jeff.  I was looking at your head today, and I thought the valves were a little small for the lapping tool I have, so Parker and Jeff's trick with the hose might be the appropriate technique here as well.

I like the hose and stick idea, my suction cups don't work that well. Now I just need a head to rebuild so I can try it out.
