Seriously though. It comes down to whatever the buyer is willing to pay. Remember when small bottles of hand sanitizer were selling for more than $10?
I keep an eye on prices all over the place and once in a while a few people will come along and 'test the water' with jacked up prices and a long story about the rareness of the machine.
All kinds of factors come into play when considering the 'worth' of a machine like where you are in relation to the bike, the cost to get it to you, the ability to confirm its everything the seller says it is and the ability to withstand the beating you're going to get from your spouse when they find out you paid $18,000 for the same model of bike you cut up and used for your garden art 5 years ago.
My approach to going after a particular model is to scan at least 3 ad mediums and see what they are asking for a bike in the condition I want. then I look at cost to get it to me.
Then I always wait 48 hrs before I do anything. time to cool off and let reality return. (Also works great as advice for responding to emails from your soon to be exfiles during your divorce)
I see guys advertising stuff for large amounts when it should really be broken up and disposed of and I think they are just dicking with the readers in a weak attempt to generate an interest in something they have hanging around the garage. I also think some guys are just delusional about the value of their stuff.
I think Oldduc has the right idea by asking others "What do you think?"
