battery woes

what would cause a brand new interstate battery to stop holding a charge in a week? im assuming my bike fried it somehow. it was dead this morning and its been on the charger for 5 hours and still only cranks over for a couple of seconds

1) Take the battery back to interstate and have them do a deep cycle test on it, if its only a week old I cant see a motorcycle system screwing it up.
2) Check your charging voltage going to the battery any more than 14.5 volts(with the battery connected) i would look at the charging system.

i have a tester and tested it myself. At rest it sits at about 12.5 volts but as soon as I put load on it it dives below 6 and then comes back up once load is gone. Seems like a cracked plate or something. Returning it on tuesday

update: took battery into interstate, they put a charge n it and told me it was fine. I was sure it wasnt,so i told them to keep it for the weekend and test it again monday morning. monday came and  called them ad asked "Howd my battery test?" They said "We'll give you a new one" put a good hour and a half of riding around the country roads of Shel/Glen and have had zero issues. Maybe they'll believe me next time
