Club table for Stu's memorial
« on: June 04, 2015, 11:37:29 AM »
i have made arrangements to have a picnic table built with a bit of extra bolting at the joints, can we get the powers that can arrange to have a check made out for $135.
i will pick the table up next week.
we need to germinate a plan to get everone together to take part in the clubising of the table and staining.
Hans can you get a stencil made up?
i have the logo somewhere, i'll email it to you if you don't already have.
anyone near home depopt/hardware/canadian tire?
we will need a couple of screw in anchors or similar.

I can write the cheque - just need someone to co-sign it.  Offers anyone?
I believe Fast 1 said he has some screw-in ground anchors but not clear if he was offering them for the cause...?

Perfect!  I can supply some cable and swage sleeves.
It might be a good idea to set the table on a couple of pieces of treated lumber/timbers (for a solid, rot resistant base) - unless someone has a better idea.

I don't have a good quality version of the logo handy.  If anyone has one of the decals and can drop it by my office, I can scan that.

Never mind, found a good quality one going through decades of emails.
Cheers

I live with fear and danger everyday, but sometimes I leave her at home and go motorcycling.

Now, when you get a bunch of 'dedicated' guys together for a full evening (and there are a few beers available), amazing things can happen....

Hell of a job boys!

Pretty good for a bunch of amateurs.  We learned as we went along.  Hans set up a projector with just outlines of the logo.  After the lines were penciled in, we used mostly electric soldering irons to do the burning.  It turns out the best tool was an old fashioned, heat with the torch iron.  It still took all evening, but the result is something to be proud of.

We worked past sun down, and most stayed until we finished.

So I think the plan is that on the ride night of the 28th, we go to Guy's and finish up the table.  Ideas are to put "In Memoriam to Stu Rees" on one bench and then burn our initials on the other bench.

So the plan got moved to tonight.  Great turnout and lots got done.

We invite those that want to put their initials on the bench to go to Guy's place.  Contact him at guy.hudson@princegeorge.ca to arrange.  Install of the table to be determined at a later date, but will be likely in earlyish September.

Great job guys!  I'll plan on adding my name/initials in about a week's time.
Should also be available to take part in placing the table.

For those of you who were not in attendance at this Tuesday's meeting we tentatively decided to install the table (weather permitting) on September the 20th to coincide with the Hooterville toy run. Meet at Bon Voyage restaraunt 9 sharp. Quick brekkie and ride to the memorial. Rob graciously offered his truck and his wife to drive and transport the table. On to the toy run and  a comfy place to stop on the way home. CHEERS!

Discussion at this Tuesday's ride night confirms the above plan.  Fast 1 is supplying the ground anchors and I will bring cable, swage sleeves and crimping tool to secure the table to the anchors.
We are also considering tarping or wrapping the table later on before snowfall sets in - might be nice to combine that event with a visit to Ian and Aline's place if they're at the lake at that time.
See you Sunday at the Bon Voyage.
