  It is amazing how many people believe this to be a real part. At least three times in my career I had someone come in and ask me to install a new one, as their's didn't seem to be working anymore. An explanation, even in it's simplest form seemed only to further confuse them, especially 2 stroke riders. Much like snowmobiles as soon as they made them idiot proof--idiots started to buy them. In droves. Rubber in the picture however would work awesome in some of my rubber band powered airplanes-not that I get much chance to fly them. CHEERS.

This brings to mind the lady who brought her car into the dealership where I was working and asked to have a new "vacuum" installed.  Apparently, someone had told her that her engine vacuum was low/poor so she wanted a new one.

A new vacuum makes the most sense if you don't know cars.  Other things to keep an eye on is the blinker fluid and muffler bearings.....

Mike,
I see you favour the superior quality roller-type muffler bearing. Virtually trouble free compared to the standard ball-type.
In newer vehicles, blinker fluid is now monitored by the onboard computer so is not a big concern.
