Motorcycle Awareness Show ... real soon
« on: April 28, 2014, 03:20:03 PM »
At our last meeting we discussed being pretty "loosy goosy" about organizing our participation.  I will take responsibility for canvassing the troops.   Muster station is the back mall parking lot on Thursday evening.

Who's in and what're bringing?  I want to show off my flat tracker again this year.  It has to come on a trailer.

I will start a phone campaign this evening.

Anyone know where our small banner is?

Peace & Grease, Dennis

Hmm, yeah, good question on the original banner - probably with the other stuff; the merch, rope and cash float etc.   I will have a look tonight and try and find it.  Are you wanting to have the merch there?  Didn't sell much last year - but it's never nothing at all.

I'll be in for one, but I will have to extract it earlier Saturday, by 4. Neil said he is in for one.
I live with fear and danger everyday, but sometimes I leave her at home and go motorcycling.

Latest news.  Email from Larry Sivall.

Hello Everyone,
This is just a last minute suggestion of how things should go for the Motorcycle Awareness weekend event. We are allowed to bring our bikes and displays etc. in on thursday May 1st from 8 pm to 10pm , we have been asked to bring them in (and out) through specific entrances nearest to where we will all be set up. Some of the  groups have asked for specific locations in the mall and I have tried to accommodate those requests, after all those places were taken we have figured out the remaining spaces needed based on how many bikes (or not) there was, the size of the group, who wanted to be near who, whether or not power would be needed as it's only located in certain areas.etc etc.
Starting with the CMA across from People's jewellers and working up the aisle from Sears to the La Senza store (it's about half way) we have CMA then HOGS then Lost Dogs who are to load in and out at the side door next to Sears. The next section up from that will be the Vintage Group and Nezumi then at the end of that row is the motorcycle awareness table, we are to use the food court entrance. Beside the escalators on the right side nearest the food courts is reserved for Ride for Dad (use food court entry) and on the left side of the escalators near the elevator are the flat trackers. Women in the Wind are next to the lottery booth facing into the main area by Sheffield and sons and the British motorcycle group starts around the Bell store and working up towards Target and both those groups will load in and out via the back parking lot entrance.
We have been asked a few things from the mall people, 1st they have asked that the bikes have minimal fuel in them and that the fuel petcocks are turned off, also that we put something underneath them for any oil drips like those disposable tinfoil cookie sheets or pizza trays and not to use duct tape on the floors, walls, or each other. They will supply us with all the stanchions to surround our bikes from the public, tables and chairs will be supplied not sure how many they have but I'm sure we can work it out on the day, I'm told the maintenance guys will help with overhead signage and getting the power run overhead and dropped down to the tables, just a side note if you have any 100 ft. type extension cords bring them along I will bring some as well I case they do not have enough. We need a minimum of 10 ft. of clear space between the stanchions and the stores near you  or a clear aisle in front of stores, also we have to allow breaks or walkways between the groups so shoppers can cross the aisles easier. I will be meeting with them once more to cover off any last minute stuff and let you all know what more I can find out.
So to recap we can bring bikes and displays  in from 8 to 10 on the thursday and last minute ones on Friday morning before the mall opens so around 8 am till 9 am getting everything out on sat night should go much quicker, more on that later. Thanks everyone, Larry Sivell

For what it is worth, I booked Friday off work so I could be at the Mall all day if necessary.  I am hoping there will be some others for Friday so I don't actually have to be there all day.  We do not need a schedule.  I have Friday covered.

I doubt we need much planning for Saturday ... There's usually plenty of us.

Peace & Grease, Dennis

Since Guy is in Powell River for the week, the fact I didn't find the banner in my merchandise box is a concern - it may be with Guy's merchandise box?  The big banner and associated hardware is at my place, along with decals, T-shirts, and hats, and a generous float for cash and an overly-generous float for change, but I did not see the original banner... oh, wait, maybe it is still hanging on the folding table from the Show n' Shine?  I will check that.

---------------------------------------------------

Er, nope - the banner is not hanging from the table and definitely not in my merch box.  Was it at the Christmas party? Anybody remember where they saw it last?   For anyone planning merchandise retail at the mall, the box at my shop has DOT toques in 3 colours, baseball hats, quite a stack of decals and an entire bag of pins, but only a couple of T-shirts and whatnot - not many size choices in what's there...

I think we should have merch.  If we don't have a banner, the shirts will say who we are.  Russell are you in for a bike or two?  I learned from the email from Larry that there is a flat track display again so I am thinking that my Ebay Bobber will have to be for our display.  I've shown it before at the mall and it seems popular enough.  Maybe try to sell it again.

Nothing very new, finished, or breathtaking amongst my bikes, and 5Bike Mike and I usually split Friday between us and he is likely committed elsewhere, so I had not planned to bring one.
The big banner isn't so huge;  maybe it would act as a table skirt just fine? , I will add that to the merch box if I can, and arrange the transfer of the merch to Dennis - remember we do not need change or cash - we have plenty on both counts, especially considering the limited items we will have to sell.  (Push those jacket pins, though, because we have only sold a couple and we have hundreds)
