Hey guys my name is Beau and some might know me from the vernon bike show/flat track. I was urged  from my brother (Qball) quinton to join this forum and all its festivities.
As some know i bought quintons '80 cx500 and have been tinkering all winter with it, not a crazy rebuild but just to make it my own, and to clean some things up cause im kind of ocd that way and as i figure how to post pics i would love to share.

Hey Beau, welcome to the insanity here.

Cheers
I live with fear and danger everyday, but sometimes I leave her at home and go motorcycling.

Hi Beau, and welcome.  Your brother, on his rare visits, always leaves a big impression here (of course, he could hardly avoid that)... I had an '80 CX500 (D model) for about a decade: excellent bike that always did what was asked of it in exchange for very minimal attention - never got anything as exotic as aftermarket carbs, for sure.  There are a set of stock CX500 triple trees and fork legs - maybe a wheel and disc, too - at my shop, any or all of which are available gratis should the need arise.  I think Lindy Schramm gave me a CX500C tank, too, though I can't bring it to mind just now.
I'll be interested to hear about the carbs - are you mounting them in the original, short-runner, high rpm CX  location, or the long-runner, high-torque GL500 position?  My CX had, I thought, pretty decent mid-range, but they say the GL had more, at the expense of some top end.

the stock carbs had a prob i couldnt figure out, im normally good with carbs and tunning i thought i could figure this out but there was a vacume leak somewhere that i couldnt find, synced at idol and ran good but took 7-8 seconds to build 8000 rpm and once there it would bark ,fart, and backfire.
I joined the cx/gl 500 forum and after much debate (mainly with the wife) i got the set, as the set they come with custom aluminum intake tubes and pod filters. also is tuned and synced on murrys bike with all the mods that you have soooooo they are just bolt on.
these carbs also come with a new single to split throttle cable for the stock throtle.
Murry is a good ol guy from vancouver that moved to cali. with his wife and does this in his garage, he also make lots of other stuff like mandrel bent mid pipes (which i also got) that go in place of the H box under the motor. All this was a bit of a price but worth every penny as it was bolt on and ride but also added 21 HP which really pepped this ol honda up

Well with a name like Beau you should paint it orange with a confederate flag on the tank--mighty tough doing that hood slide/ through the window thing .... Seriously, welcome to the most ecclectic club I've ever known. Seems like you'll fit right in. Have not yet in fact met q-ball but Peggy speaks highly of him and I value her opinion, after all we share 2 hobbies (we both jump out of "seemingly" good aeroplanes) look forward to one day meeting you both. CHEERS.

Glad to have you on Beau.  I sold the Ducati and I just ordered 2000$ worth of parts to finish three of my collection off.  Hopefully the Honda CB750, BSA A7 and Matchless 500 will be road worthy in the near future.  well the Matchless track ready but the other two road ready.  Just waiting for the mail man to deliver me some biker bliss now:)

Hey Qball, reminds me of the sign on my shop wall:
Money can't buy happiness,
but it can buy bike parts, and they make me happy! kaziff
