Buying Damaged Bike in US
« on: September 02, 2013, 10:19:02 PM »
If I buy a 1986 $750 dollar bike in the US and ship it to Canada will I have to pay any exorbitant costs to get it across the border into Canada. It is considered a wreck although from the gas tank back it is in reasonable condition.
I am presently working on a shipping cost estimate which i would pay and arrange.
It would be fully papered as it was on the road until a few weeks ago when the owner took a slide and wrecked the front end.

In looking for used FJ's in the past in the states, by the time purchase plus shipping was figured out it was cheaper to find one here in Canada.  Add to that the 12% tax into B.C. and the federal fees as well as the safety stuff and buying other parts to fix the wrecked stuff???. Guess it would depend what the bike was though.

I may not get this one but I am interested in the US market as there seems to be a lot of reasonable purchases there.
