Good news, too bad it was abused.

I'd love to hear more of the background story.  Was it joy ridden and trashed?  Were they after parts?  Are the thieves going to be charged (with at least possession of stolen property).

bummer now is that they won't release it to me, only to a towing company. I am going to try and convince them that it's smaller than a deep freeze and I can just pick it up as property but they sound pretty stubborn.

I'm sure they would let you trailer it home.
Why be normal?

They would not let me trailer it home but I got some amazing and unexpected help from this forum and my bike is now home at no extra cost. Big thanks for the help.

They did a number on my perfect cm 400. I will post some pics but headlight and some signals gone, tank is bashed to heck and repainted. The ignition is gone, windshield gone, storage box gone, side cover gone. They should have just called and I could have shown them some better ways to hotwire my bike hahaha. I have some serious work ahead of me starting with an oil change and dumping the fuel. I don't want to try and start it without knowing what is in that oil and gas. In short it looks like some fairly terrible (worse then me even) mechanics tried to do some creative work and failed hard.

Still glad to have it back

Well, if the CDI is still there... Have I got a CM for you!  ;D

Seriously, though, I'm just wrapping my head around letting go of my old Honda, '81 CM400T.
She's got an electrical gremlin, but starts up and runs for about 5 min. before quitting (talk to Dennis, Hans, or Quinton, they've seen).
Ran beautifully before the electrics (initially thought it was the carbs) started fussing around, and I've done the rings and seals, coils, and leads this year, too.
Also rebuilt (and balanced) the carbs with a factory kit.
Tank could use a lick of paint (not dumped, just poor quality paint, 8 yrs old)... but there's new pipes, the seat has been nicely recovered, and I picked up a set of hard cases (which still need the frames adjusted) from another club member. Everything 'should' work... and does, for a little bit... but then doesn't.

You may be the best qualified person to sort out the problem, and I'd prefer her to go to a good home...
If you're interested, let me know and we can work something out.

Glad to hear you got your bike back... getting things stolen is hard on a person's faith in humanity.

I'm still curious about the low lifes being charged.  If they are charged with possession of stolen property, then Dave will probably be a witness for the Crown.  They have to have evidence that it was owned by someone other than the accusseds, and that usually means the owner has to testify.

Query: was it found abandoned or in someone's possession?

as i have worked in the towing industry for many years..I have never heard of such BS as "can only release to tow company". I would personally go to the station and demand proof of such regulation... I have seen many vehicles released straight to the registered owner from the side of the road or the police Hold lot. Doesnt much matter now that you got it out without having to pay for a wrecker...

if a coil is weak or cracked....it can work for a short time and then as it heats up it will lose connection inside...then after the entire thing cools off (the next day)....it will again start and run for a time... also possible to do this with a condensor, or a spark plug..

A person witnessed some guys pushing it and then abandoning it on Norwood.

I would be interested in another CM 400 for sure Peggy. My bike is going to need some work so maybe there is one bike between these two.
