Down to the wire... but which wire? An offer goes out.
« on: July 02, 2013, 08:57:46 PM »
So, the Honda.... the bane of my existence.
Well, maybe that's exaggerating a little, but after hours and dollars and more hours and more parts, and threads of suggestions tried again and again, we've reached an impasse.
And we're coming down to the wire for O'Keefe.

She runs, sometimes well, sometimes poorly, then seems to starve to death, sputters and dies.
Carbs, seals, rings, fuel, air filters and electrical connections/components have been variously cleaned, replaced, checked, double-checked, and checked again just for good measure.
And still, runs like cr4p.

So, here's my offer.
If anyone has time on Thursday to have a look at her, QBall and I will be rolling into PG early in the afternoon. The bike's on the trailer (with all the other bikes), and can be brought to you.
I'm willing to pay you for your time/ supplies/ etc. If you work out of a shop, shop time and fees....
If you think it needs an exorcism, I've already thought of that.

I only hope to ride this bike some more before she's shelved permanently... and that time is fast approaching.
Any takers, please leave a message, or call my cel Thursday after 1pm:
1-250-615-8914

Sincerely,
Peggy

Sorry Peg, I won't have time to look at it. Still think you should try borrowing a c.d.i. from mr. Horton! Luck and CHEERS.

No worries, I just tracked down a spare CDI here in Terrace....along with the rest of a similar Honda being sold for parts...
Going to give it a try tomorrow evening, fingers crossed!

2 more things to check... is there a sidestand switch?  What about a neutral and clutch switch.  Intermittent faults with either can cause similar symptoms.
I live with fear and danger everyday, but sometimes I leave her at home and go motorcycling.

Really sorry to hear that all efforts so far are for not.  I hope to connect with you on Thursday at least to meet the both of you and see the bike you wrote about.

If you need tools, and a cool place to work, I will make my shop available.  I have followed your trials and tribulations, and what I cannot offer is any more advice than you have already received.  Intermittent problems are the worst.

I will make sure my shop is a bit more organized than it is at present.  Happy to do what I can.

Query: will Quinton need to change a tire?  we can do that at my shop also.

I am working Thursday, but you are both welcome to have free range of my shop, tools and cold bevies in the fridge.

Peace & Grease, Dennis

Thanks guys, I know most of us have been there.. so at least it's not a lonely walk home.

The best of us have all done the 'walk of shame' on occasion (you know, where you're pushing the bike home, and all the drivers passing you give you that pitying look, but nobody stops).

>Hans: I'll check for those too, don't think there's a sidestand switch, but I haven't looked for one yet, so why not... easy enough.

>Mike: Sure thing, it would be great to meet you, and for you to meet my bike. She's not much to look at, but when running right, she's mighty snappy.

>Dennis: Yes, please. I've got one tire to swap off the Ratbike. Don't worry about making your shop show-worthy, any shop that gets you out of the rain & snow is a great shop in my books!
(I was thinking that your tools would get cold in the fridge, but I keep my bearings in the freezer, so there ya go.)

Still and all, looking forward to O'Keefe!
