Yamaha Gas Tank
« on: January 14, 2013, 03:07:40 PM »
I am looking for a small Yamaha dirt bike gas tank from the 70's.  Many of them have the same front mounting set up as my XS650.  The little yellow one on my drag bike is from a YZ80 and fits great.

Here is an Ebay ad with some pictures. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1973-74-75-1977-78-79-1980-81-1982-YAMAHA-DT80-GT1-GT80-GTMX-MX80-GAS-FUEL-TANK-/251154495092?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a79f97674&vxp=mtr

I have spoken to a fellow in Vanderhoof who has one from a 1979 GT 80 but its a bit of a drive for me unless I can't find something closer to home.

Peace & Grease, Dennis

Dennis, did you try looking at Ebay.com rather than Ebay.ca there are roughly 4000 more tanks for sale there under the heading of "Yamaha gas tank".

Wow. That would be awesome.  How do you want me to get you the money? Can you ship COD?  What further contact information do you need?

I tried the yellow YZ80 tank tonight (pictures in Complete Rebuilds).  It does not fit perfectly which is interesting because it fit perfectly on my 1981 XS650 frame.  My flattracker is based on a 1972 S2 which is quite a bit different, but I just assumed the mounting bits were the same.   It turns out they're a bit wider, but nothing an angle grinder and MIG can't adjust.

I will still probably have a look and Honest Roy's Bikes In Fields to see what he has stashed away.  My surf through Ebay makes me think I should get a couple of these in my collection for future projects.
