World English Dictionary
spectre  or  ( US ) specter  (ˈspɛktə)

? n
1.  a ghost; phantom; apparition
2.  a mental image of something unpleasant or menacing: the spectre of redundancy

A bike this bagged had to have had an owner who knew about it or was a  moron.  (Yes it still 'ran' when you got it, but it was terminal)  Some people will sell their souls to the devil for a few hundred bucks.

yes, im sure this guy knew something.... I chalk it up to a learning experience now. If it weren't for this club, I would be lost in some land of unknown motorcycle tinkering... and besides the whole mechanic thing... i have made a couple good friends as well... what else can you ask for!

So to me.. its a positive thing that was suppose to happen and at this time in life.

I'd say well done all around, great attitude turning a bad situation into something possitive.  I do commend those who helped/are helping you out of your nightmare, without them it would not be the same obviously.  So nice to hear of this.

PS the clock on this site is off by 1/2 hour if that matters at all...:)

He missed the picture with the cases closed and the connecting rods on the bench.....
I live with fear and danger everyday, but sometimes I leave her at home and go motorcycling.

I blame the cases being so clean and shiny, but your right- there they are. I hate that when things are going well and you realize something was missed 3 steps back. Do over rewind ughh! CHEERS.

Interesting that the bevel-box for the shaft drive appears to be a bolt-on addition to the cases - not that it could be transferred around to chain cases, but for someone considering an out-there re-engineering type of build, the possibilities are interesting.  Were there o-rings for the oil galleries between the case-halves like a Suzuki?  If so, were they hard to source?

Absolutely;  you two are to commended on your perseverance...

Not to be picky or anything but now that the kids are in bed and due to my missing the missing rods I took a closer look at the pictures. Don't see any pre assembly grease for the bearings--hopefully just out of frame? Initial start up lubrication is very important.  There is a ratchet on a case screw. Just to run it in I hope. I cheat by using mechanic's feel on a lot of things but not cases, cylinders or heads. Torque wrench. Here's an old indian trick for you. Get some wide long elastic bands. Assorted bags can be had at the dollar store. Slide them through the piton pin rod journals and loop them around the cylinder studs. Now you can roll it over like crazy without damaging the rods on the cases. They are actually very sensitive to this. The long thin rods on a harley are so sensitive that one good knock on the case and they are out of true. In layman's terms, bent. When you get there I have the most wicked ass cool set of 4 ring compressors you can find. You may borrow them if you like. CHEERS.

I left the ratchet on there for Hans to hand torque.. we dont trust parkers torque wrench at all, after breaking 2 of my bolts already.

Rusty, we ended up using the ones that were already in the case, they were in good condition, so we made sure they were clean and put em back....

Wayne... the pregrease.. im sure will be done.. Parker is pretty good about making sure things are pre oiled and greased before we assemble.

The piston ring compressors.. yes we will probably need to borrow those ! thanks for the offer !!!

So once Jeremy gets a top end gasket kit, we'll need the Ring compressors Wayne.  As for pre-lubing the bottom end, Everything was covered in fresh oil before assembly, like slobbered. I remember reading someplace that the assembly lube can actually harm things during initial start up because its a bit too thick and doesn't flow through the oil  galleries nicely. That being said, i think I'm out of assembly lube ! ;) I guess my red oil can didn't make it into any pics. THAT is for sure just out of frame  ;D

I ordered it tuesday night... so im hoping it will be here tomorrow.. i just ended up getting a whole gasket kit, that way if you need anything for your bike (to stop your leak) then you can just take from that. I only need the head gasket, and it was still cheaper with shipping to get the whole kit, than to order from Cycle North.

Sad, that we cant support our local companies because they overcharge !

I need to call wayne to see if he is still in town... i forgot the other day, got busy at work.

I will be home Tuesday night if you want to wait for the ring compressors. I also have a couple of straight low rise bars, either of which could be had for a pint of beer. Health and hapiness.
