Living Vicariously
« on: July 20, 2012, 12:43:33 AM »
Our oldest daughter recently acquired her class 6 learners permit and purchased the Yamaha 185 Exciter learner bike. Today was our first lesson. We rode to the C.N. center. She has been diligently reading the riders guide and asking questions for weeks. With some parking lot instruction I set her loose. Yes Peggy, your friend Tesia took her first ride today! She also jumped out of an airplane with me 4 times last year. I expected a grueling afternoon of frustration and tears. Turns out shes a natural. Slow but smooth launch right from the get go. Third lap she wanted to know how to shift. Stalled only once because she was in second. By the end a wide smooth slalom through the light poles. Very proud and scared all at the same time. Being a rider almost makes me worry more, being all too aware of the dangers. Now I know how my MOM felt. Eerie when the shoes on the other foot. Took me back decades in my mind, remembered things I haven't thought of in a ...well, a long time. Good day for both of us. Cheers.

Go Team Tesia!
Awww... I'm SO proud, too.
Takes me back to my first 'big' bike. You must be thrilled to be able to (eventually) go riding with her!
My dad used to tell me horror stories about 'rides gone wrong', just to keep me on my toes. Still remember the one about how he went under the moose, before hitting the ditch. He was okay, but it still makes me aware of wildlife when I'm on the hwy.
Guess it's a toolkit for T. for Xmas, hey??
Didn't know you guys were jumpers too?! I've been all over the province jumping out of 'perfectly good airplanes'.
Guess you've been a good influence...
Cheers,
Peg

Actually, jumping was Tesia's idea. Been on both our bucket lists for years. My birthday and fathers day are close together so at Tesia's suggestion all the kids and my wife chipped in to get me a first jump package. Myself, Tesia, Kris (the oldest man-child) along with Kayla Cardinal all jumped together. Terror and adrenaline produced elation. There is nothing like floating around in the sky close to God. The first First 5 seconds will increase your heartbeat like crazy! I have 6 solo jumps and would like to do many more. Have actually put her off on the bike thing for a few years due to the aforementioned fear. ran out of excuses. YES I am very much looking forward to riding with her. Can't wait till she is ready for ride night and a bigger bike- Maybe Neil or Stephen will part with their 400s.. Tesia says THANKS and hi Peggy. Relayed the message with out showing her. Not sure I want her to know what a big pat on the back she deserves-don't want to inflate her ego and make her over confident.  Cheers.
