Fort Fraser M/C weekend
« on: April 24, 2012, 03:19:16 PM »
got a nice note from Sue who is putting together the Fort Fraser meet for july 14&15

Goes like this, I haven't heard from any of you about this event. i have volunteers arranged for the rodeo.
The rodeo master has already booked time off work. at Plateau.
Bartenders-myself and Glenda, she has booked time off from the Coop and i have also taken July 13,14 and 15 off from my job.
The fort Fraser rec society has agreed to our use of the grounds and their portable stage.
I've arranged for the delivery of two portable toilettes on Friday July 13.
Betty Jackson has volunteered to host the pancake breakfast  and donated the use of the Last Spike pub for sunday breakfast.
The Fort fraser rec society will have their concession/barnq at the grounds
now i need to know if the informationthat i used last year for the special event liquor license is what should be used again this year??
If it is i can bring the necessary documents with me when Colin and i come to Prince George this saturday April 28th.
We will be seeing you at the Pine Center Mall
If you have posters/ flyers, i need at least 2 dozen, maybe three dozen.
I've missed the opportunity to send posters north to Rupert/ terrace/ Kitimatetc, with a couple who were riding that way and also south to 100mile, quesnel etc.
Please call me and fill me in on what's happening, i'm not very good at waiting or being ignored.
I will fax or call again tomorrow if i do not hear from any of you. Sue Sadler567-4121/ fax 567-9751/ 690-7433 or email   cbss@uniserve.com

I do not even recall when we last discussed this Ride/Meet at the meetings at any length.
I will be away until May 7, does anyone have answers for Sue??

Last I recall from the late Stu was that he was not too enthusiastic about this.   I thought we decided to pass on this event.   I know that I am in Vernon the weekend prior for the O'Keefe Ranch thing and was not planning another motorcycle event after until the Alywn Long weekend in August.  That is what I recall.  No one has contacted me about this at all.

I would be willing to be the bearer of bad news for Sue if that is the consensus.   Did I miss something?

Otherwise, If we are going to be involved, some members are going to need to step up to the plate before these poor volunteers really get burned.

My recollection is close to yours Dennis, but it sounds like after Sue,s efforts, this one has the potential to be a well organised meet and as mentioned, if some members want to put effort into helping out, i have no problem with assisting financially (as before which was a nearly break even) to make it happen.
Sue,s correspondence with us has not been stellar as i gather none of us had any idea this was proceeding, so posters and whatnot for this weekend is out of the question, possibly if we work together with her we could have something in a few weeks.
On the other hand, i see 17 reads, but only Dennis respond?? does that tell me no-one is interested? kaziff

My recollection is that we only talked about this with Stu's parents, who did say that the community wanted to make a go of it.  I'm not sure the group made any commitment to it beyond tacit support.  This is the first I've heard of "Sue".

That said, I'm ok with it if we can break even again.  Just not sure if I am able to attend.
I live with fear and danger everyday, but sometimes I leave her at home and go motorcycling.

I am on the fence on this one - I guess mostly because I viewed the event as largely, for my purposes, Stu-centric.  Since Stu had such fond memories of the previous iteration of the event, his slight disappointment with the weather and so-forth at last summer's event was manifest... someone, as Dennis says, will have to take Stu's place as the center of gravity for the event, if they feel motivated to do so.

We owe it to Sue to communicate.   What I will do is as follows.  I recommend all members follow suit in regard to communication with  Sue.

We were caught off guard by this because we thought it was being dropped.  However, if we can pull together a team to do our part (I am not sure what that is...it may be just front the dough for the booze)  in short order (less than two weeks hence)  then lets do it.  As a defence plead  ignorance since that is the truth.  Is there anyone who actually thought we were doing this again this year?

For my part, I can have posters drafted by Thursday and printed by Friday.

What say y'all?

Remember we also have Bob's weekend in June which should actually be fairly easy to organize.  Don't forget the O'Keefe Ranch which many of us are focusing  on also.  I can only speak for myself, but I cannot be hangin' with my motorcycle buddies, drinking beers and talking about cam chains every weekend.   I'm on my second marriage and ain't lookin' for a third.

Peace & conundrums, Dennis

How about a point man?  Some one who can confirm with Sue what exactly is our  obligation/expectation and can we do this.

Dennis, that sounds workable. they seem to have most items taken care of, the club should give a hand if the cost is minimal, if  a few can attend, even better.
Sue has an email adress, is there any way to send her this chat link to get her up to speed?
Dennis, i have given the box of merchandise to Ted, he is not sure how to get the box to Pine Center as he wants to takle his bike, maybe someone who will be on the early friday shift could swing by and pick the box up from him? Kaziff

Sue called me as well yesterday and talked to her last night. She seemed in a bit of a flap as she hadn't heard from the club members regarding the event. Obviously, there has been poor communication around this whole thing and I think both sides can share the blame. I don't personally recall the club committing to sponsoring the event and fronting the money to purchase the liquor. She indicated to me that Stu's parents thought we had made a commitment as a memorial to Stu and that she had gone out and done all this legwork based on that premise. Sue also faxed me the details as outlined by Kaziff. I told Sue that I would talk to some members and call her today. I talked to Charlie last night and he is all for holding off until next Tuesday and bringing this topic to the members. Neither of us feel we have the mandate to make this decision ourselves. I think this is wise. It is now only April and Sue is planning the event for July 14th and 15th. I think there is time for all of us to talk about this next meeting as it is less than a week away and still give Sue time to get everything in place should we decide to sponsor the event. We have around $2500 in the kitty to fund the BBQ/ride to Bob's place and for whatever else. The money we fronted the event last year was about $1000 and so we should have enough to cover both events if needed. I personally don't think there is much risk to the club as this is really just a short term loan and even if things went really bad and no profits were made we would only be out the cost of the band and portable toilets as the unsold booze is returned to the liquor store. It sounds to me as if this event is better planned than last year and at a better time of year as far as weather goes. Personally, I would have no problems if we sponsored the event as a legacy to Stu. He was a great guy and once costs are recouped, the profits from this event go to the Fraser Lake school so it's a good way for us as a club to contribute one of the local communities.  If it is sucessful there is no cost to our club and if things go bad there is little downside. I also gives us a good reason to go for a ride out west.

I was under the impression Dean and Shelly Milot were going to take back over-- they have been the ones to do the lions share at this event in the past. I am all for the club supporting this event but have to attend a wedding in Langley that weekend. Will see if I can get a hold of big Dean.

I would hate to see any MC event go down due to lack of interest, so I'm for supporting it with a loan, if we can do it. Unfortunately, I also have prior commitments for the month of July, so I'm unsure if I would even be able to make this event.
