I scored an XS650 engine for $100. I offered Roy $50, he said he usually sells complete engines for $300 but would take $150. After 20 minutes or so, I said "Roy, you gotta sell me this engine for 100 bucks." Maybe it was body language, the fact that I'm a repeat offender (I mean customer), that I brought a bunch of other looky loos (I mean potential customers) or that lump in my jeans (cash ... ) was talking Chinese dinner for Roy tonight. Either way, I think I was the only one with a confirmed bargain by the end of the day.
For what its worth, Roy does have alot of stuff, but not generally worth the price he wants. I know these guys need a decent return on their investment but some things are silly. He has a mountain of rims which are rapidly deteriorating ("Bikes in Fields") and wants $50 a piece. Russel was a ready and cash heavy buyer, but Roy wouldn't budge. At 20 bucks a wheel Roy would be eating Chinese take out for months. At $50 they remain a "Field of Dreams."
