Engine / Re: Throttle Body Rebuilds
« on: March 03, 2026, 10:15:13 AM »
I have been dabbling with AI (Copilot) when researching parts and repairs for my old Ironhead Sportster.  One would think with so much information out there to glean from, AI would have no problem getting it right.  I got some good information and some completely wrong information about brake fitting sizes.  In the end did things the old fashioned way; took the part to Chieftain and asked, "you have a fitting for this?"

The welding part will be the easiest.  It will be the plating after that will be difficult.

BIKES & PARTS WANTED / Re: CB350 parts
« on: June 18, 2025, 09:52:37 AM »
I will check my stash.   I bought some headlight brackets on ebay when I was building my cb350 bobber that I ended up not using.   I think I may have the fork shrouds also.  I doubt I have turn signals because they are the first things I throw in the bin.

General Discussion / Upper Frasher Ride Night
« on: June 11, 2025, 12:34:07 PM »
With perfect weather and almost the longest day of the year, the brethren decided to ride to Upper Fraser (old mill site); probably one of the longest rides for a Tuesday.

Pushed the limits on gasoline with about six stopping for gas on the way home.  Arrived at the BX Pub at 10:01 to be told the kitchen closed at 10:00 (seriously, a minute earlier than we arrived).  Had to settle for chips and Doritos.

General Discussion / Ride Night turned Shop Night
« on: May 21, 2025, 11:48:38 AM »
The weather for Ride Night looked iffy, and I needed to get my ironhead sportster off my bike stand, so I offered the Brethren to join me if they wanted.

Olof, being the engineer made sure we followed torque specs.

Choppers aren't Olof's thing .... yet.

Rick's always had a spot for choppers.

General Discussion / First road trip without tools.
« on: May 20, 2025, 02:24:36 PM »
Its the 11th season for the Stolen Sportster.  I always pack a significant tool pouch if more that riding around town, but in all the kms this bike has travelled, my breakdowns away from home have been needing to clean the battery to ground connection (Nelson BC) and a broken headlight (Dawson City, Yukon).  I figured I didn't need tools for a quick jaunt to 100 Mile House.

All started good with a beer half way at the Oasis.

My kick stand spring came off in Williams Lake.  My only tools .... duct tape.

Actually, with my duffle bag tied to the handlebars, riding without a kick stand isn't too bad.

At my Mom's and with some simple tools I Jerry rigged it back together.   I obviously need a new spring.

Back at home, I had to change the rear tire (thanks to Kieth for his tire changer tools and skills).  While the tire was off I decided to fix the taillight.   The rubber gasket had cracked with age and I wanted to glue it back together.   I discovered two of the three fastners loose.   Once I got the taillight off, I discovered the rear fender cracked.   No time do to a proper fix without taking it off the road so I just put it back together with all three fastners tight.

I did the price comparison between Fortnine (usual Canadian supplier for me) and Mike's Superbikes.  I bought from Fortnine and it was $0.94 cheaper for a Dunlop K591  150/80 B16.   Obviously Mike's Superbikes prices aren't cheaper across the board.   Maybe it's because a rigid Sportster is hardly a "super bike."

I will check them out.   I need a new rear tire for the Stolen Sportster.   I was only going to check out Fort Nine because I have been happy with them in the past.

Just made my last American on-line purchase for awhile.  Bought a set of T-bars for my ironhead Sportster from Low Brow Customs.

Why not put the new gears in the '77 and keep this one intact/original?

Hilarious.

I've been tempted with the dishwasher, but have only gone as far as the laundry sink.

Great night.   Thankfully Keith had some special tools which made the job easier.

Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures to share.
