First road trip without tools.
« on: May 20, 2025, 02:24:36 PM »
Its the 11th season for the Stolen Sportster.  I always pack a significant tool pouch if more that riding around town, but in all the kms this bike has travelled, my breakdowns away from home have been needing to clean the battery to ground connection (Nelson BC) and a broken headlight (Dawson City, Yukon).  I figured I didn't need tools for a quick jaunt to 100 Mile House.

All started good with a beer half way at the Oasis.

My kick stand spring came off in Williams Lake.  My only tools .... duct tape.

Actually, with my duffle bag tied to the handlebars, riding without a kick stand isn't too bad.

At my Mom's and with some simple tools I Jerry rigged it back together.   I obviously need a new spring.

Back at home, I had to change the rear tire (thanks to Kieth for his tire changer tools and skills).  While the tire was off I decided to fix the taillight.   The rubber gasket had cracked with age and I wanted to glue it back together.   I discovered two of the three fastners loose.   Once I got the taillight off, I discovered the rear fender cracked.   No time do to a proper fix without taking it off the road so I just put it back together with all three fastners tight.

Peace & Grease, Dennis.
