Spark woes
« on: November 25, 2011, 01:15:19 PM »
Not a tip or a request for info; just a bitch session.

On my IT400 based drag bike, I had a week spark.  New plug made no difference.  I then purchased a new aftermarket (cheap Chinese) coil.   No spark.  Then to make sure I did not screw up the wiring, I put the old coil back in.   No spark.  I did not change any wiring.  I am dumbfounded as to what I did.  After an hour of cleaning every connection, swapping coils and plugs, I still have no spark.  I'll get it figured out eventually, but man, stuff like this fries my ass.

Peace and Sparks, Dennis

When you find that spark gremlin and duly subdue it let us peons know what type of gremlin that was taking residence up in your drag bike.

I got thinking while looking at my ceiling at 3:00 this A.M. that it sounds like a grounding fault.  You probably have already looked at the grounding but might be worth another look.  Not sure what the grounding on your bike looks like but maybe check to see if there is continuity with the grounding wires, frame, engine etc.

Wine ferments with time.  Boots get softer and more comfortable.  Broken hearts heal.  I have no idea how or why time would effect wiring but ...

Saturday night I decided to have another go around on the spark problem.   I swear I changed nothing.  I now have spark.  About the only thing different that would have occurred with the passage of time is perhaps all of the electrical contact cleaning spray I was using evaporated.   Otherwise this is a complete mystery.
