Years ago I had a burnt out stator on an 1100 Suzuki. It was the pre-internet days so I could not just ask uncle Ebay for a replacement. Via word of mouth, I eventually hooked up with a lady in Kelowna who ran a hobby/business rewinding motorcycle stators. Talk about a niche market. I spoke with her on the phone. Her husband had died, but before then he had been a motorcycle mechanic that periodically needed stators to be rewound. He showed her how and set her up doing his when he needed them, and eventually for others. She told me she rewinds stators while watching TV, and it was a mindless as knitting for her. After she had a few done, she had a resin/plastic dip tank and an old oven which would then bake on the coating. She said her biggest market was for Goldwing owners who wanted their stock rotors to have a few more winds so they would put out a few more amps. She rewound mine and it worked beautiful
I've never rewound a stator, but then, I've never knitted either. Might be something to try one day ... when I can't rely on uncle Ebay.
