New experiences

Had 2 today. Our church has joined the Cougars as volunteer ushers, I had entry P Q. Free dinner and a game for standing mostly, even reacquainted an old friend. This afternoon one of our godson's parents asked for a ride to the food bank. Experienced some shocking reality. About half the people there -and it was full were people you would expect. An alarming number of seniors, working poor and college students. We were there for an hour waiting their turn and ended up with four bags of groceries for a family of 5. Saw an unreal amount of food go out the door in my time there. Our friends received cereal but no milk, veggies and rice but no meat and enough diapers for a few days. Gave them 50 bucks to fill the gaps. Now I understand why the Salvation Army is looking for so much money in their kettle campaign and am thankful I'm not in need of their services! PLEASE do not go past a kettle this Christmas without making a donation. I hoard my 5 dollar bills just for this purpose. CHEERS.

And to add to this, sometimes those kettles go unattended for lack of volunteers to man/woman them.  A bit late now as most slots are filled I think, but perhaps next year if any of you have spare time sign up to do this.  Friday I stood outside a liquor store for 2 hours just to see if I could do it at -20c.  (I could have gone inside but not allowed to ring bells) Made it, but was chilled to the bone for the rest of the evening.  It gave me just a taste of what the homeless go through and a slight hint of how bad it must have been for troops in trenches during wars....shot at to boot there....people dying around you....Most of us have it so good, I am so thankful for that.  I had a warm place to go after 2 hours.  Merry Christmas.
