So there is this concours for sale at Cycle North here in Prince George. I take it for a test ride, its a little stiff, I have to adjust the idler screw etc etc but all in all its not too bad. I am amazed that it has 14,000 km on it, because the website says 114,000. So I ask, nope it has 14,000. I ask for confirmation again because it doesnt feel right for only 14,000. We dicker over pricing etc, I say im not paying to speak to a finance manager as i am paying cash .. wtf .. so the deal is slowly getting down to where I want it.
I again ask for confirmation, I get the work orders sent to me etc etc ... in the work order there are notes: customer states there is 100,000 km difference on the bike than what shows. I ask AGAIN for confirmation, and am assured its only 14,000. The work orders have the previous owners name, cell, and home phone number. Hrmmm.. okay, I contact the previous owner. Previous owner states the bike has well over 100,000 as he him self put on 55, 000 and bought it when it had 66, 000 for $3,900 years ago. I let that owner know that Cycle North is saying different... he says .. umm they are incorrect.
Again I ask, then I'm told it was confirmed with the service manager of over 20 years, and they can prove it. (all while I know they are bullcrapping me). I lead them to believe ill be up in the morning to discuss more... they say great and they will get it ready for me.
I am elated, cause I'm going to call them out on fraud when i get there ! I get a call 10 minutes before business close today, and am advised it is in fact 114, 000 and sorry for any confusion. (they talked to the previous owner to confirm) or maybe he called to say your busted... either way they say it is 114, 000 now. I say okay, lets discuss price now ... they tell me there was a lot of work they put into it .. I said no .. you only changed the fork seals at $294 as per the work order ... so thats 300 Cycle North ate on that .. he explains well the water pump and stuff and tire we changed... again NO YOU DIDNT .. the customer paid you for that .. and a week later came back and traded it on another brand new concours... "oh ? is that so .. i never knew that" he says... "well ..make me an offer and Ill speak to my boss."
I said , "who is your boss?" He says, "Dustin LLoyd."
So, I say.. you tell Dustin I know you guys only gave the guy 1,500 for the bike in trade because of the miles on it ( previous owner told me what he got on trade) ... and that I want a better deal than 4,300 after taxes.. actually you know what , let me talk to Dustin myself Ill tell him. This guy says yeah that is probably the best bet. Let me get him to call you, hang by your phone for 5 mins and he will call.
I wait ... the phone rings but guess what .. amazingly he has left for the day !!! But this sales person called Dustin on the cell phone to explain and Dustin said nope, the price doesn't change and feels its a good deal, so we either agree or the deal is dead. I'm like.. well its dead, cause im not paying that .. dustin KNEW the kilometers on that bike when he took it in , sales guy covers for him and says "I don't think he knew that's why there was confusion."
Pretty sure Dustin is the sales manager, therefore knows everything about the bikes... and probably does the website approvals.. and it says 114,000
