Tartering her up for Spring

After nine years of usual insurance, I've decided I want the Chang Jiang registered as a collector item.  I have never done this, but I know many of our members have.

Apparently you need four good photos, and your bike has to look fairly pristine.  Accordingly I spent much of the weekend making the ol' girl look pretty.

The barrels were rusty, there were lots of chips in the paint.   I painted those.  The annual rust has to be cleaned off the chrome leaving a very "patina'ish" black spotted after taste.





While working in the sunshine, Elliott came by.   Bastard.  He's riding while I'm ... not.



We are supposed to have another sunny day on Monday.  My plan is to be home before 5:30, finish polishing the sides of the sidecar, and then I am going to take the photos I need for applying for my collector's plate.  Hopefully the big wigs at ICBC won't be too anal.  Under garage lights, its looking good.

You should be fine, just give them the views they want with good lighting so it does not look like you are trying to hide anything.

This question is probably easier answered by the insurance people, but I thought I'd ask members who have gone this route.  The ICBC website says 4 - 6 weeks, but anecdotally I've heard as brief as 2 weeks.  I want to get riding now.  I am thinking of doing the regular insurance pending receiving approval (or not) of the collector plates, and then transferring the regular plate to the Smithers XS 650 if and when the collector plates arrive.

Does this sound doable?

I have the photos all ready and planned to go to HUB/Barton this afternoon.  The ICBC website also says to send the form and photos to them, but you can also just do it through your Auto plan broker, so I thought I'd kill two birds with the same stone.

If I do this right, I will have at least one bike insured until June 17th, by which time the Rubbermount 883 Rigid Frame project had better be finished... three months should suffice.
