Indian Bob
« on: October 06, 2011, 04:29:15 PM »
Forgot to mention last night that the Lundbloms families are on board with a five year memorial ride camp-out for indian Bob.
Bob passed away May 23 2007, so i had suggested early June 2012 would be a great time to get together to celebrate Bob's life.
I had suggested that a low-key get together to swap a few stories and have a couple brew at his cabin at Likely would be thoroughly enjoyable (weather dependant)
Jim says there is room for some guests in the cabin for sleeping for those who do not "camp"
Let me know your thoughts on this.

Sounds like a great idea.  We will have to put in on our ride schedule for next year.

Absolutely.  The family's involvement/agreement  is crucial.  From what I recall, there is plenty of room in the back yard for all the tents we could muster.  We should think of how to do this with imposing on the family as little as possible (ie. access to water, outhouse etc.).  The best plan would to make it meaningful for them would be for us to do the work and them to enjoy and bask in the acknowledgement that Bob passed with so many friends who remembered him.

I know some people in Likely who may have known Bob also (motorcycle types).  I will contact them.  They were his neighbour.

If we start now, and plan around the idea that the family does not have to shoulder the responsibility, we could make this into a great event for next season.  I for one will volunteer to be on any organization committee.

I made a few inquiries today.  Likely has a general store, a pub and a post office.  There is also an Inn called the High Country Inn.  They don't generally do catering, and they have the business up for sale.  I am pursuing another long term community member who is a neighbour to see if we can get someone to put on food (around a campfire I figure).

A "Johnny on the Spot" or similar portable toilet would probably have to come from Williams Lake and may be prohibitively expensive.  I've called the two places.  The rentals are $35 and $40 a day (not bad actually), but since we can't carry one on the back of a bike we'd either need a volunteer to get it and return it with a pickup, or pay for delivery which is $65 per hour, and both outfits figure it would be more than an hour each way.

I'll keep poking around for information.
