A bit of unsolicited information for you regarding the refurbishing of the Harley.

I brought a '42 WLA up from Australia in 5 gallon buckets a few years ago. It was about 80% complete but some bits worn out and unusable - a situation you may well find with any bike that has sen the inside of a shed for lots of years.

My original cost to purchase and get it into Canada was $3382. then I put another $6800 into it for assembly, paint and chrome etc. It was a 6 year project that involved hundreds of hours of searching for bits and negotiating prices. I also got a great deal from the fellow that did most of the assembly. This was in 2004.

Not sure what sort of time the club wants to dedicate to a project like this but I wouldn't do it again. The return wasn't worth the investment. It confirmed my notion to only buy complete bikes that could be running without major work.

That being said, it was an interesting bike to ride and didn't take long to sell.

Why be normal?
