A7 issues

So in typical Qball fashion I've don it again.  After rebuilding the BSA last winter, I rode it a few times last summer with some oil issues.  I thought it was from the head feed tube....it was that also.  after fixing some electrical banditry, and the top end oil leaks and cleaning the engine, I was very proud of myself.  Fixed a bike and it hadn't cost me anything yet...... but I spoke too soon.  The generator is only pumping 0.67 volts (fair enough) but the rebuild kit is 350 bucks!  Ouch .  Pissed off i called it a night and went in the house.  Next day I went out the the shop to grab some pliers for a totally unrelated task and there was a pool of oil on the floor!  After all the rebuild, cleaning, primping and all the work i had done, the lower crank case seal is shot.  requiring me to pull the engine and tranny and do a COMPLETE disassemble!  I should have gone the extra mile when the bike engine was out the first two times.  lesson learned.  The bsa is off the road till after next winter.  :(

Take home message:  if you have gone 90% of the way, don't be lazy, check everything and then know 100% that is done and is done correct.  If in doubt....Do it right the first time and double check everything!

Back up rewind sucks. A wise man once told me "never trust anyone's work but your own and even then double check" What he really meant was be thorough. Having repaired motorcycles, a.t.v.s and snowmobiles for some 20 years and being stung on more than one occasion I know this lesson all too well. It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it. CHEERS and better luck next time!!
