I also never had these - I was in Vancouver as a teenager, and can attest that the Dayton was very much the thing to have if you were the hard-rockin' tough-walkin' AC/DC type - a group I was not in. I also had a peculiar aversion to any footwear that had ankle-level straps, rings, hooks, laces or anything else that would cause me to get ensnared by my footpegs or shifter/brake lever/pass.pegs and so-on, after an ugly incident where a looped lace lassoed a footpeg and deposited me on the ground. This was a repeat performance, after having done the same thing earlier with a pair of great-big-flappy-leg jeans, when kids had those, though that was here in Prince George. Just clumsy, I guess - and wary because of it.
Now there was a girl in Van I really fancied who had snoot-boots... but then she was perfectly consistent to the above description, too, and, as such, pretty much beyond my reach...
