Buy it. The 1978 was the best year (in my opinion) of the ironheads.  It was the last year the swing arm geometry was like the old Shovels.  The shifting and braking were modern.  By '78 the compression was lowered for crappy gasoline, domed pistons, and heat retaining heads (literally cast iron, hence the name).   Many of the later Sportsters were electric start only (for good reason), and this one has both kick and electric.  The gas tank on this one  is not stock, but is a popular bold on aftermarket tank which is easily reverted to stock for the purist.  For the non-purists, Sportsters are some of the best platforms/canvases for chopper and bobbers.

$4K is what an Ironhead frequently lists at.  This looks like  a good one.  I'd still try to push the price down just because ... unless the bike is exactly what you want.

Rob, if you get all excited and think you'd go for it, you are welcome to wheel it over to my shop for .... storage.  I promise I won't take a Sawzall to it unless you leave it here too long.

LOL ...thanks Dennis but I want to find a dirt road rider for this season first .....before I but anything else. Heading down to Kamloops/Kelowna in a few weeks so I was browsing Castanet when I came across this and thought it was a decent starting price for someone who may be looking for an old HD.
