The Maxim 650 is a shaft drive cruiser typical of the period. In my opinion, the main reasons these bikes have not been snapped up by the builder crowd are the (a) shaft drive and (b) the meat slicer wheel design. These bikes were (like most Japanese bikes of the period) very well built, and very reliable. They just suffered from dated styling.
When I built my GS650 Monoshock, I wrestled for a long time with what I could do with the stock bike as a donor. I surfed the web for hours trying to find something that looked good. I ultimately found this bike as inspiration.

These could be a good start for someone else's project ( I have two on the go this winter ). Of course, Paul or I would be willing to assist in getting the registration.
