The Cost of A Bike (or car for that matter)
« on: September 08, 2013, 07:09:56 PM »
Most recently after "Hans' trip to Denmark we have had discussions around the cost of vehicles in Denmark and the tax burden added to their purchase.
The following quote came from a BMW Forum I frequent and I am flabbergasted by the fact that even old bikes are subjected to this onerous tax.

"Well, in Denmark, a K100 costs like 2700 gbp for the cheapest one on our version of craiglist, or what you guys are using. Fair condition w/O mot.
We have a really high registration fee, which basically adds 180% of the base price of the bike or car.
I paid 1000 gbp for my 109k km 1985 K100RS in ok condition! That's why I could'nt resist! "

Ha Ha (To quote one of our members) So we should be happy with our minimal tax rate.
What is "gbp" and how does it relate to the Loonie?

My online currency converter indicates that GBP is the Britsh Pound Sterling and is currently equal to about $1.63 Canadian.

No wonder the bicycle is so popular in Denmark.
