The wife let me work in the dinning room!!!
« on: December 28, 2012, 06:58:37 PM »
Been tuning up the Ducati and have the beezer together even though this is the third time I still find new issues.  Keep learning little idiosyncrasies that each Brit bike has.  It is not all original but it is close(ish) and will continue to be a work in progress.  Next winter will be cosmetics if I can work out the kinks mechanically this year. The tank is the wrong year, and the seat mount has it a bit far forward, but other than that it all seems pretty good.  Starts second kick every time.  I'm not allowed to start it in the house though, it was one of the two concessions I had to make to be allowed in my wife's domain with my bikes.  The other was no carb or gas work in the house.  But for the sake of a warm space where my wife remembers to give me sandwiches every once and a while, I'm a happy man!  I also posted a couple questions under parts wanted about the bsa...I don't know if I have the primary side set yet as for a clutch cover and chain tensioner but please read that post if you think you might be able to help.
The Ducati for those of us that we're at okeef this year has been a major pain in the ass electrically!  Almost every wire in the whole damn bike was rotten.most of which has been repaired or replaced now.  Part of my starting problems were due to cracked wires grounding out, and/or blowing fuses.  I have never seemed to get it back in tune as good as my first few runs on it but am getting close. The only thing missing is the air boot to the filter, other than that its all there and pretty much original with 1410miles on it and no that's not a typo!

Can't wait for the snow to melt and make it out for a ride
See you boys soon

Nicely arranged;  I have wanted to put my feet up on one of my bikes while I watch TV for quite some time now - but the stairs and corners that would need to be negotiated have thus far proved insurmountable obstacles - even though there aren't any other opinions on having bikes in the living room that have to be accounted for around here, so far, no bikes upstairs.  :'(

When I was 20ish I lived with some bikers down the bottom of 3rd ave. about a block from the old Macdonald hotel. The stories I could tell about that place...... anyway it was an old house with a small garage with a grease pit at the back. Said garage however did not have heat. To enter you had to go through my room which was actually built partly over the original garage. When winter came it was a simple matter to roll it straight through the door into my room where I could work on my then beloved 1975 RD 350. Back then I used to bring home a lot of girls to errr.. play cards. While playing cards with a particular girl one night  she asked me to cover the headlight because she felt like the bike was watching and getting jealous. Another time I took my bike apart in the living room and took it all downstairs for the winter. Polished and painted with new parts it was time for re-assembly. Which was done in the basement. You can see where this going- 4 grown men 45 minutes and some cever maneuvering to get it outside. Lesson learned. CHEERS.

Built my daughters 350 Honda in the living room of my mobile home back when I was single, was really quite simple to roll it out the door when finished. Having to go back and forth to the unheated shop in the winter for tools was the most difficult part. Now I have a heated shop to work in, much nicer to have bikes and tools in the same place.

  Later, Bob

 PS, Love the A7

Open to offers on the Ducati, wife needs something a little more tame and novice friendly.
