does anyone know if signal placement makes a difference legally? I like them further back on the fender but should they be closer to the tail?

I've never attempted upholstery before but I did watch several YouTube videos so how hard could it be right? Harder than I thought, luckily I bought enough vinyl to wrap it 3 times. I learned that you have to staple one area securely with many staple before pulling on  the next area. Also be careful that the staples don't come put the other side. After ruining on piece of vinyl I kind of got the hang of it. You have to pull it very tight to confirm to your contours. I found out that the edging of my seat pan where I cut it should have been dressed better as it shows through the cover but I wasn't about to start over again. Next time... The rear of the seat posed a slight problem as well. Its exposed as there is a gap between it and the rear fender so I don't want the staples showing. I managed to hide them with some fold work but I'm not entirely happy with the result. In the end I give myself a C+. It will do for now.

this morning I went to fabricland and bought 1/2 a meter of off white marine vinyl and then a $20 staple gun from princess auto (which I intend to return tomorrow) and set to work wrapping my seat

Alright Hans; you have convinced me. I am going to give it one more shot.  If I bend or break one more ring, I think I am going to cry.

Hey there, Hans!
Thanks for reminding me that you have my first ever FJ that I owned back in '88  :'(  Remember, if you want to ever part with her, I will be here, waiting... wink, wink.  As far as meeting up for rides, much appreciated, but I ride solo.  I am kinda anti-social in that respect. ;D
Have a good one,
Dean

here's what's left of the stock seat. the 35 year old foam was surprisingly easy to work with. made the large cuts with a bread knife and shaped it with a 36 grit sanding disk on my die grinder.

after watching a few YouTube tutorials I have decided to attempt to upholster my seat myself. Mostly because I'm a do it yourself kind of guy but also because I'm frugal. i cut the rear section off the seat, decided it was still too big so I peeled the rest of the torn cover off and shaved the foam down until I was happy. i want to recover in an off white rematch my paint scheme. Anyone have experience they'd like to share? I'm not sure where to get the vinyl.
