General Discussion / Garage time at last
« Last post by Dennis on November 19, 2018, 05:16:32 PM »
I finally got to spend a weekend in my lovely heated garage while my wife went deer hunting in the freezing cold.  My garage is a mess of my current projects.

First thing on the agenda was giving some love to my Chang Jiang.  I has been living outside and unrun for two years.

First thing to check for is spark.

After replacing the spark plug wires, and charging up a new battery I bought for the trike project, I got spark.  On to fuel.  I had emptied the gas tank and ran the carbs empty before I parked it last

It would run on ether.  I pulled the carbs.  Full of water.

After everything cleaned it started.  One blip of the throttle and the engine was revving full speed and not returning to idle.  Throttle cables rusted.  More work.

After adjusting the carbs, the Chang purrs like the kitten it always was.

Peace & Grease, Dennis

I finally got some garage time this weekend and dove back into the BMW.

The bike was stuck in neutral, a few blocks from my house (a few months ago).  When removing the tranny, the first alarm bell was a bunch of aluminum shards in the swing arm/shaft drive housing.  This is a photo of the rubber boot.

It quickly became apparent that the output shaft flange had come loose.  The nut was almost backed off all of the way, and the flange was able to flop around.

Pretty clear where the aluminum shards were coming from.

I cleaned up the driveshaft and swing arm.  I still have not opened up the tranny.

Peace & Grease, Dennis.

if anyone is looking for a write off let me know. Anything comes up eventually and they are rebuildable so if you want parts or a particular bike for way under book value they are a good way to go. the other ni e thing about write offs is that you know they were running and insured at the time of their accident.

That would be an awesome donor bike for a custom project.

I see a good engine and front forks.  Well worth your money.

Its not vintage but considering that Harley axed Buell in 2009 and the cyclone was only made between '97-2002 makes it somewhat collectable I suppose. Ive always kinda liked Buell. They are such an oddity. They never caught on in the sportbike market because of their Harley sportster engine and the Harley market never fully accepted them because of their "ricer" looks. I think it will make a very sharp looking bike with little effort and I cant wait to start on it. Just not ready to tell the wife its mine yet... she wont even notice another bike around the yard until i start ridding it anyway.

So today I became the proud new owner of a previously stolen 2001 Buell M2 cyclone. Purchased for $800 from ICBC and looks to have very minor if any damage. Should get to my shop sometime this afternoon.

General Discussion / November meeting 2019
« Last post by Donovan on November 16, 2018, 08:31:07 AM »
I had a bit of  a thought for next year's Legion meeting for November.  Margret felt bad about forgetting about our meeting as she was busy with the poppy campaign.  I was thinking that for next year we should cancel the meeting at the Legion ,as the same situation will happen then, and hold it somewhere else.  I could even have it in my garage if that was suitable.  Any ways it is a long time till then and we can come up with other ideas that might work.
