General Discussion / This should be a little better...

I got back from alberta on, it was pretty thin in that worn area...  i WON'T be taking a ludicrous risk like that again....  i got my new knobs on now, though... Kenda Big Block, $300 all-in at cycle north.  I just had to wait a bit.  Took a rip on 'em today, feel pretty good to Meeee!

Here is what i rolled back into town on....  Talk about a wing and a prayer!

The weather was fantastic, almost a bit hot for me....  the bike in the pic is a Norton Commander, the civvie version of the Interpol...  wankel engine, the only roadworthy one in canada. The other one is in pieces.  Apparently they were both once owned by Nelson Skalbania...  interesting story.  I will put up more pics when i get a quiet moment (HA HA)....

Well, i made it there and back no problem.  My GS ran like a champ, only made me pull out the tools once so i could tear apart the bike to jiggle the starter relay...  i found out that i can make it from my place to three hundred feet short of the gas station in jasper...  just over four hundred km on twenty six litres.  I rode seven hundred km to rocky mtn. house on the first day, i got instant cred for that. I made eight hundred and fifty coming home in one shot.  Made it into town with cords hanging out of the back tire, but made it nonetheless.  Sitting in a logging truck for eight years was good training for that sort of thing. I saw LOTS of sweet bikes, met lots of cool folks. It was my first motorcycle adventure in thirty years and left me wanting more.

General Discussion / Thinkin' aboot goin' to the Ponoka bmw rally...
« on: July 09, 2023, 02:16:39 PM »
Well, i'm making a vague plan in my mind to go to the CVMG bmw rally in Ponoka, probably head out the morning of the 20th and camp somewhere.  It has been a LOOOONG time since i have done something like this, i'm not sure if i can make it in one go...  I was sort of not sure if i should go, we were just handed three weeks off with no notice ..  maybe a guy should do the Right Thing and stay and work. In the end i decided to do the Right Thing for Me and i'm gonna go.  No real plan, no real idea, just go.  I gotta change my front tire and get my shit together next weekend. My back tire is a little sketchy, it is on backorder for the new one. Sketchy has never stopped me before!  I don't really know any other way....

General Discussion / Re: scale needed
« on: May 13, 2023, 03:09:47 PM »
Just weigh yourself, then pick up the engine and cradle it in your arms...  Then just easily step on the scale and hold things steady for a bit. Bend down and check your weight, or get a helper to get down there and check. Try not to drop the engine on your friend. Then step off the scale and set it down all gentle-like...  Let me know how all that goes, maybe make a chiropractor appointment ahead of time...

Man, what a lot of work...  Starting at the front wheel, new brake pads & fluid, new steering bearings (PACKED with good grease), new mirrors, forks cleaned & flushed (fresh fluid too), valves set, carbs cleaned, new neutral switch & wiring, new air filter...  Just gotta sync the carbs and install a battery switch one o' these days.  Lotsa snow between the workshop and the road, though ..

Hi everyone, i haven't posted in a long time, been busy working myself into the ground. As per usual...  Ah, i'm doing pretty good, still working on things and battering my way forward.  As per usual...  I sent the giant 43 litre fuel tank that came on my GS all the way to boxer2valve in north carolina, it just arrived there on friday.  We are doing a swap so i will get some swag to improve my bike.  I haven't done much work on bikes lately, i have done a bunch of work to my crappy snowmobile. It is running so good right now, it's not crappy!  I bought the SR250 from Donovan for my son to start on, we are just budgeting for a battery for it. I have a round of work planned for my gs, closer to springtime. Lots of things on the go, all the time!

So, does anyone know of a good used jacket and riding pants "for sale"?  I am gonna spend on a NICE brand-new helmet, i have always endured uncomfortable, miserable helmets. There must be some good used gear out there?  I'm terrible at finding things on the Inter-Webs, so short on time to look...  I want a decent "adv-type" jacket and pants to start, and eventually i will need to kit out my son. We have his learners permit tests booked for the DAY of his sixteenth birthday, just like his ol' man.  The apples don't fall far from the tree!

This is getting long, take care everyone...  I am sure gonna try to take part more this year, just gotta keep things steady...

General Discussion / Re: Sidecar driving for beginners
« on: January 15, 2023, 06:58:09 AM »
I just saw this, i can't wait to show it to my son.  I am trying to convince him to start side car racing with me.  He is a little reluctant for some reason... He would be a good rider, scrawny, quick, and limber.  Just gotta convince him, this pic should do it.

General Discussion / Ride down south to Shails in Surrey...
« on: October 13, 2022, 09:04:55 AM »
Hi there everybody, Steve here...  I was wondering if anyone is going south this fall, i want to get into Shails to see if i can trade the long-range tank off my beemer for something (anything), plus pick up some supplies.  I was hoping to get to a surplus warehouse down there too.  I will split the gas and driving duties....  But be warned, i am a log truck driver so it could be terrifying. It shouldn't be, but it could.  Text me at 250-614-3757...
