Title: Can I be a real member now?
Post by: Dennis on October 08, 2011, 08:17:24 PM
I just picked up that 1956 BSA M21 from 100 Mile House.  It is still dressed in its 1960's "wish I were as cool as Peter Fonda" finery.

If I can find a digital camera, I'll post some pics.  Anyone curious can drop by and have laugh ( I mean look).

Aah, the credibility only bestowed by those relics of that faded empire upon which the sun never sets - now deep in darkness - but the motorcycles endure yet.
Unlike self-imposed moratoriums on buying more motorcycles, which somehow are fleeting and ephemeral things, bereft of the required will to establish themselves for any length of time...

Haven't thought of my Bikes as being Ephemeral.....as they surely will be around when I am Dead and Gone....unless whoever ends up with them when I am Dead and decide to Be Gone with them....
Congrats there Dennis....sounds like a Very Cool bike....would like to know more about it....

Oh Yaaa....Don't let Bulldog hear about it ;D  Wow....are you filling your basement with these things now?

Agreed;  motorcycles will tend to endure - it's moratoriums that are fleeting and ephemeral ;) Dennis had been saying earlier this year that he had too many projects, no more room,  and wasn't currently accepting any more deliveries...

...and I stopped by today to bask in the majesty of this particular post-war monument.  Well worth the visit - even just the seat is worth seeing. Remember, the rubber-mount Sportster/chopper frame is being filled up, too, so lots of things to check out at casa de Dennis. Marvel at the miracle of modern electronics that is a late-model Sportster.

I was ill yesterday and did not check the forum.  I wish I had felt better and could have packed in some gas, oil and beer to attempt to flash up the M21.

I was in bed, when Lauri says "There are 10 bikes which just pulled into the driveway."  I felt better almost immediately.

Some Tuesday in the future, I will gladly host a "lets flash up the bike (s) night."  I am expecting a new coil for the drag bike and it will be ready for its first kickover soon also.

Who knows, maybe even the 883 if I can get some spark and exhaust pipes mounted.  I would not want to start it without them.

Peace and Grease, Dennis

Didn't know what they looked like. Is it a two stroke or a side valve flathead??

Kurt please don't give him any ideas. I know he is a good butcher but the BSA M21 is a piece of history. I know bring that 1973 Z1 over to the shop i will show u some art work. That was was my trade been a butcher in the 60s. Hey Dennis have you checked every thing under the covers and prep work before u flash it? It might have been a long time for the old girl to do some sining again. She has a awsome voice trust me she does. THE BRITISH BULLDOG

Speaking as a guy who used to fret for hours over how to slip in that one last bike in the remaining garage space I understand how you might feel about any moratoriums Dennis.

Really, the answer is as simple as buying another place with lots of room so you can fill them both up! Don't consider this need to buy old iron as anything less than a gallant attempt to do your part to preserve history for all those (who might have expected something from your estate) to see and enjoy for years to come.

The M21 is an interesting beast and should provide lots of envious gazes whilst idling at the red lights in Prince George. Here's a couple of photos of one in need of a complete makeover but all there.  Speaking from personal experience - If you could convince your wife to park the car outside the garage you could gain an extra 3 bike stalls. ;)

All right I gave up on you guys and Googled it. It's a side valve, type in bsa m21 the pics that come up right away there's a nice silver and black bobber. I have a nice one gallon peanut tank that I might be persuaded to part with.

Wayne please don't give Dennis ideas. He is finally taking the right direction o restoration instead of butchering up a beautiful machine a BSA M21. They are a part of history. Some buddy should start a club called THEE BOBBER BUTCHERING BOYS The BSA M21 stock will ride and show class at any event. Bobbers are a dime a dozen that is one mans opinion.     THE BRITISH BULLDOG

Haven't seen it yet -was under the impression it was already " bastardized". Have to get over there soon.

Fast One Wayne old buddy - I feel you did a awesome job at Stu's funeral.  I personally want to thank you and you took a lot of weight off of my shoulders.  I also feel the club is lucky to have someone like you.   I want to thank you again.

Thanks Steve for posting the pictures.  The ones you show have rigid frames.  Mine has the plunger suspension.  Mine had been bastardized, but not beyond repair.  It had a non-stock seat (understatement) and the rear fender and stays have been bobbed off.  I have ordered a replacement Layette type seat already and am snooping around for a replacement fender and stays.  There are other bits I will need eventually also like the handle bars, headlight nacelle with ammeter and key switch.  The battery strap/box will likely need replacing also.

Fritz: I have seen the M21 on the Jockeyjournal, but there is another one that is even cooler.  Check this out http://www.jockeyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45347

For the purists, if I did a custom, I would completely fabricate my own frame.  There is no way I would butcher any of the good parts on this ol' girl.

Still planning a "fire up the bikes" night.  Probably in November.  I am fabricating/modifying  the exhaust mounts for the 883.  If I get that done, that will be three virgins we can pop in one night:  the M21, the drag bike, and the 883.

Peace & Grease, Dennis
