Title: coil swap
Post by: fj1200 on July 14, 2011, 08:00:18 PM
Does anyone out there have info on how to change out the coil on a yamaha xt500 for an automotive type. From what I have read it seems like a popular change out. But I can't find out what is required to do it. ???

Why just one??  You should have at least two of everything. Unless they are fj's or goldwings. Then you need lots and lots.

If i read this right with all the hype i hear about BMWs being trouble free etc. it makes more sense to stay with the British such as  BSAs, TRIUMPHS etc.

A coil is a coil. You can't use points style coils on a c.d.i. system, c.d.i. on points is fine. Put a Honda v-45 coil on a Beemer- fella said it was the best it ever ran. Xt's seem to have more trouble with the c.d.i.-available aftermarket.

Just remembered..... I fixed the coil problem.  It had something to do with the right leg/foot and the thumb on the left hand which in turn was compounded by the erroneous comprehension of the main control module.  Had nothing to do with the machine.
