Title: Tank linning
Post by: Sr.X on March 05, 2010, 07:36:41 PM
I need my tank lined, can someone tell me the rad shop that does the tank linings. Mine might be a bit tricky, has 5 theaded holes into it instead of the usual petcock. Also who is the best person to talk to about getting this done. Thanks, Bob

Mike McLintock had a Prince George Radiator Shop do one of his tanks last summer for, I think, $150.  Most rad shops, it seems, offer this service now;  I had the same shop do a car tank 15 years ago.  Guy has a connection in Ontario for POR (Paint Over Rust)15, which has in it's catalogue a tank liner;  I have used regular POR 15, and it is tough, even the normal stuff from years ago was impervious to gas, and everything else except (a lot of) time and UV.  And, of course, Kreem is still around for $50 a kit.  It works as well as it ever did; which is not too bad.  What I don't like about the rad shop stuff is the red colour, which I don't like when I look in a tank (that's why I lined it, to get RID of red), but the plastic they use seems tough, probably tougher than Kreem, which the makers of were always leery of for use with oxygenated/ethanol gas.  Remember your tank will have plastic in it from that point on, so get any bodywork out of the way first, if you think you might want heat or welding. You might have to fab a plate to cover the fuel outlet, and then tap the plastic out of the holes afterwards.
I think Mike used Northland Radiators on 3rd.

What about this stuff....

A 2 part epoxy.  Looks like they sell direct.  Also looks like they have POR kits.

Got the tank done at Northland Radiator, the had to do a bit of patching on the bottom and the red colour doesn't bother me if it's tough enough. Cost me $250.00 most of the time was spent doing the patch work. It's in getting painted right now. Took some before photos but can't seem to move them from where they are in my computer to the forum. Might be my iphoto doesn't like to give them up, I can email them but they don't want to come to this site. Will keep trying.

Thats because its a welfare site >:(

set up a photobucket account so you can upload pics there and then copy and paste the link to your post.

It's fustrating not being able to see other members pics ??? I vote for an upgrade so all we need is volunteers to panhandle at the local malls and liquor stores ,can anybody play an instrument? I can play air guitar and dance. Fritz can confirm that :o
