There was a column in yesterdays Citizen about the Prince George Legion. They're closed right now by order of the Provincial Health officer so no income. With no income they are trying to raise $20k to cover their overhead for the next 3 months.
I have 2 questions for our group:
1) Is there any interest in our club to 'front' the annual donation to the Legion that we typically make at the end of the year?. $500? and
2) Is any interest among fellows in our Club to make personal donations to the Legion. I'm willing to coordinate the effort by collecting peoples
cheques. Wether or not anyone donates is strictly a personal choice and I would not divulge the name of anyone who does or does not donate. (the
Legion has started a gofundme page but I personally don't use these things. GoFundMe extract far more commissions than they add value.)
I did a quick search of the CRA registered charities and the local Legion branch 43 did not show up. So that means there probably won't be a tax receipt.
But, I'll follow up with Margaret and let the group know.
Comments?

Hi Olaf count me in for our annual donation and personal as well . When you follow up with Margret see about membership forms

I agree with an early donation if the finances are good. This will likely be a low income year for the club unless we can get to meeting again and get the project finished. I'll also put in personally.

I agree with an early club donation to the Legion and will donate personally as well.

I'm in for the early donation by the club. We need to support them and our veterans, seems to be the government only ever pay lip service to them.
Just my opinion

I agree with a early club donation as well.

I'm okay with making an early donation to the Legion. I wouldn't want it to negatively affect our ability to donate to the Hospice House Society. Both are worthy organizations and, without committing to an amount, I would toss in a little something extra for both places. In the case of the Legion, maybe taking membership - I don't know the cost of that.

I will mail a cheque to you and should it be made out to the Royal Canadian Legion or to PGVMC?

Cheques should be made out to Prince George Legion Branch 43.
For fellows who would like to join the Legion, I've attached a copy of their application form. Annual dues are $55.

Thankyou to all those who donated to the cause of our local Legion. I met Margaret Goings today and gave her the following:
? Our our annual (early) donation to the legion of $500.
? $225 worth of donation cheques from individual club members, and
? 3 applications (complete with dues cheques) to join the Legion.
Attached also is a copy of the letter that I passed to her.
