I grew up knowing a fellow like that in Vancouver. He could build almost anything and most of it from just looking at the bits and imagining the outcome. A special talent for sure. Too bad we're into the downward spiral of tossing things away when they stop performing the way we think they should. His favourite reaction to my presenting a solution he didn't agree with was to lean into my face with a cigarette burning and say "What the F__K were you thinking Crout!" It was a great motivator to do it right the first time but wouldn't pass muster these days.
We all need great mentors but the herd is getting real thin these days. Who will you be passing on your mechanical skills to? Our kids don't seem to have the same mechanical motivation do they? Maybe the answer is in the attached photo?

Video log of a Dutch woman named Noraly. Last year she did India to Malaysia on a Royal Enfield. This year she was doing Patagonia to Alaska until she got stuck in Peru due to Covid-19. Last couple episodes she's posted have been about being in lockdown in a small Peruvian town and trying to get to Lima to get to a repatriation flight.

When I was living in Victoria in the late 1980's there was a shop that serviced and sold refurbished Villiers engine lawnmowers. Victoria always had a significant British expat demography, and like British Motorcycle enthusiasts, believe that if it not British, it ain't worth crap.

So, apparently you can make a Honda horizontal engine into a V-twin.

I love these Allen Millyard videos. Although he has a nice lathe and TIG welder, he still chops, heats, and washes "in the garden."
I particularly liked the camshaft video. I have been researching re-phasing an XS650 to 277 degrees. The crank is the easiest, but the camshaft would have to be cut and welded. There are machinist out there who will do it, or alternatively there is a British outfit which sells new 277 degree camshafts.
After watching the Millyard camshaft video, me thinks I should do it myself (with the help of a local machinist we all know).
