Rick hosted us for out first official "shop night" of the season. Great turn out (more than the picture) including two guests curious to hang out and see what we do.

The project Yamaha was tore into to. First on the list with any old barn find is to determine why the bike got parked and ignored in the first place. A bike is seldom "running when parked" as many lore would have you believe. They are parked because something happened that was never diagnosed, or was diagnosed and deemed too costly (time and money) to fix.
In the case of the little Yamaha, one of the connecting rods is loose (really loose), and while flapping about carved a groove in its cylinder barrel. We did not get the case opened to actually see the connecting rod/crank shaft connection, but its not going to be good.
We'll reflect on the costs/benefits. It would be great if we could find a "plug and play" engine for cheap/free.
Peace & Grease, Dennis.
