On Wednesday (July 25th) I was chatting with my nephew Elliott who mentioned he was going to Disaster Daze on the weekend. I've always wanted to go but never have. On Thursday I got a message that my nephew Emery was also going ... on a shovelhead chopper.
On Friday a.m. I called my para-legal and advised I was not coming to work until Tuesday (today). Off to Disaster Daze

Left later than hoped but still able to meet Emery at his East Van shop around 10:00. This shop is in a basement behind the Astoria Hotel ... pretty sketchy place.

Saturday morning ride through grid lock was non stop whitelining, lane splitting and shouldering. No one honks at or fingers a group of bikers on straight piped choppers. I got sucked into the moment and kept up all the way to Horseshoe Bay for the Ferry to the Sunshine Coast.
A large group of pre-partiers met at Ruby Lake for a swim. Then rode back to Pender Harbour for the party.
The event is described as a vintage motorcycle meet, but its really an old school chopper event. Right up my alley.

The ride home was brutal in the heat.

Great pictures Dennis thanks for them. Was there a lot of partying going on at all hours of the night?

There was some all night shenanigans, but once the bands finished, I went to bed in my cozy tent, thermo-rest, and sleeping bag. I?m getting old. By contrast, some of the others went to bed with stars, grass and leather jacket for a blanket.
