Title: 1977 CB750F Cafe
Post by: stikman on May 26, 2016, 01:26:49 AM
I picked this bike up just over a month ago locally.  It had a mean leak from the oil pan which had been repaired but was warped, the carbs were way out of tune and not installed, and a bunch of other issues.

I boiled up the carb boots in a wintergreen oil mixture to get them softened up enough to install the carbs, which worked out well.  Installed a new battery and spent some time trying to get the thing running.  After it finally fired up, I did a full tune up.. plugs, cam chain tensioner, valve lash, points gaps, timing, carb sync, as well as a new float in the #1 bowl which had the wrong one installed.  Got it running much better, but at this point the oil leak came in full force.  So I pulled the headers, dropped the pan, replaced it with a fresh one, new pan gasket, fresh oil, no more leak.

Had to do a few other things like bolting down the rear of the tank since there's no more stock seat to hold it in place, bolt down the seat, and make a bracket to mount the muffler to.

Anyway, at this point I've got it insured for the week and I'm getting the kinks worked out.  I think I jetted the carbs a bit high, so gotta jet back down a bit.  Otherwise it seems solid.  I've got a guy in Vancouver who says he wants to buy it, so I'll find out this weekend I guess.  I figured if anyone here was interested in it, that would save my brother having to haul it down to Kamloops with him on Sunday.  Let me know, otherwise it might very well be going down south.  Kind of seems a shame because I just got it mostly finished and ready to ride, but I don't want a cafe myself and have enough of my own bikes and projects.

Here's a start-up vid of it after my first time taking it out for a rip.  You can see it still needs a proper cafe taillight and signals, but the fellow interested says he'd deal with that:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnnFeRVRAIU

Nicely done.  I think your potential buyer has found a good bike.  You have left a few things (tail light and signal lights) that are better finished by a buyer, as these things are often determined by personal tastes.

Peace & profits, Dennis
