Title: No Spark
Post by: benwaechter on March 14, 2015, 11:30:29 AM
Hey, I have a 1982 Yamaha Maxim 750 I am thinking of riding this spring, it was parked for two years when I got it, I have cleaned carbs, and tried to fire it up today, no spark. i know the neutral safety switch is good, the kill switch is not interupting (it actually kills the signal to the starter when its on) but I don't have a manual or reliable wiring schematics to see if I have a failed coil or bad wiring. Anyone a maxim king on here? thanks.

couple things to try.  Side stand Switch, they grime up and cause all sorts of problems.  Also check the wiring into and out of the CDI/Ignition module.  Unplug it and see if the contacts are corroded.

Good call on the side stand switch Hans. I wasn't aware this bike had one, have spark now. Carbs will need tuning and maybe more cleaning but it is starting to fire now. Thanks again.

I'm pleased our Forum could help you.

Our first Spring ride will be the 2nd Tuesday of April.  You should try to have that bike working for the season opener.

Peace & Grease, Dennis

Ill aim for that, pulled and cleaned the carbs, but still not getting sufficient fuel, maybe the way I did it or I am missing something.

found that the coils were intermittently not outputting good spark, took the coils I had sitting from an 86 FZ600 and the bike livened right up, need to make a small bracket to get them to sit nicely but it runs great now. On that note, anyone have coils for an 82 maxim 750? I would like to keep the parts for my FZ600 together. thanks
