A few years ago, a few of us went to Steve Hilder's Place (Shep) to assist him change fork seals on his BMW. Parked in a snow bank was a rapidly deteriorating XS1100. I commented to Steve that I had been looking for just such a bike to build a 70's style chopper trike. A few days later Steve offered it to me for free.
I took the bike home, and stripped off the parts that were not going to be needed and were frankly beyond repair; fairing, seat, panniers and tank. I purchased a differential from a Chevy S-10 which has the perfect gear ratio for a trike (10% lower than the bike's drive ratio), and a pair of 70's styled Turbo mag wheels. A year or so passed. I then figured it would make a much better caf? racer so I bought a very nice gas tank. Another year passed.
Anyone who's been to my garage knows I have projects to last me for years. I have come to accept that I am becoming a hoarder, and this project is just not high enough on the priority list to see it done in the foreseeable future. Hence it needs to be passed on.
This bike is still registered in Steve's name, and I have the papers. It is an excellent basis for a project, with only 23K Kms on the odometer. However, since Steve gave it to me, it would be wrong to sell it or pass it along without his input. Steve is in agreement that it can go to a Club member for free.
For non Club members we'd have to talk. Steve paid money for the bike initially. I paid $100 for the near pristine gas tank. That is for sale. For the differential and wheels I paid $200, but that would be given away for free if you wanted to do the trike. You'd have to haul them away though.
Peace, Grease and Kharma, Dennis.

Lots can be done with this bike.

I would love it but much like you Dennis I already have too many projects. Hope to see a trike out with the club for next year.
