As some of you may know, I work overseas and once in a while I land in a particularly nice place. This assignment is for 3 years, based in Ramallah, Palestine. The region is fairly calm and the environment is "business as usual" in most parts of Westbank and Israel.
Any club member that has wanted to visit this area is welcome to travel here and stay at my 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment in Ramallah and travel freely around the Westbank or Israel. I'll be at work most of the time but I can arrange to pick up from the Ben Gurion Airport, set you up with transportation to Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Tel Aviv, Haifa, Acco, Nazareth, etc and any other area that you want to see. We've come to know a few trusted drivers with vehicles and they work for a reasonable price. Or you can hook up with one of the hundreds of bus tour companies in the area.
A side trip to Athens is about $450 or you can cross to Jordan and rent a car for $35 a day and drive 275 kms to Aqaba on the Red Sea.
Of course there's no charge for staying at my place and I would only ask that you pitch in for food and petrol. The spare room has 2 beds and there's room for another 1 or 2 persons if you're bringing family.
The flights from Prince George via Air Canada to Ben Gurion Airport run about $1,700 in low season to $2,700 in high season.
Available dates are from November 1 to December 14 then again from Feb 1 to March 30. I start to taper my visits after that so this is sort of the last kick at the can. Most people find that 8 - 10 days is plenty and allows you to sample all the touristy spots without rushing around too much. The weather during this time is much the same as Vancouver in the Fall with a possibility of light snow late in December. It actually rains a bit in Jan and Feb. The bonus is that there's no waiting in huge lineups to get into the sites.
