Here is a video sent to me of a Ford 1936 assembly plant. It looks quite sophisticated to me.

The sound track and the black & white photography, combined with the drudgery of assembly line factory work sort of reminds me of the movie "Metropolis." Not quite so dark and sinister.
It is interesting to see that techniques develped 76 years ago are still used today. I saw on "How Its Made" making car body parts. They still use giant presses, often hand fed. Also, the design of the pressed parts is so they can be stacked.
Lack of eye and hearing protection is noteworthy. No women workers. I'm surprised they weren't smoking.
