Title: Anyone in Terrace?
Post by: MaximX on February 23, 2013, 08:44:08 AM
I am considering buying a bike in Terrace and would like to know if any of you know bike people there.  I want a compression test done and a general look over in person by someone who knows bikes/cars.  I will pay them for their time.  Then I would have to figure out how to get it here.  Any suggestions on a good shipper any of you may have used?  Thanks.

Hey Mike,

QBall and I both live in Terrace, and could probably give you some thoughts on the bike, but for a detailed rundown, you might be better off catching Paul on his Sunday off.
He's working in Kitimat right now, and chances are that he'll have a free day to do that, if you ask him nicely! I hear he even brought his tools with him... Email Kawmeister, he's your best bet.

Cheers,
Peg

Oh I did not know you were in Terrace PeggySue.  The seller keeps calling the bike mint but small things are coming out from the emails, like the seat has a 'patch' in it etc.  I do not expect perfection on a 26 year old bike, but if you insist on using the word mint it should not have a ripped seat.  I have asked him for good photos of the bike and will see what he sends.  I do not want to put someone out of their way on this, working out of town makes days at home precious, refering to Qball.  My main concern would be how it looks all around and the compression which I have told him must be good (that being within 10%).  I hope I can trust him to get that done correctly and I made it clear that if I would verify it myself...the trick being how to do that before making the transaction....or perhaps full payment.  Having an unbaised person just look at it, see how it starts cold and listen to it could be helpful.

I'll chat with Kawmeister about it today, and see if he's up for it. QBall is heading outta town here shortly, but I have his compression tester (bwahaha!)...
If you don't mind sending me a PM with the guy's info, I'll see what can be done on this end.

Cheers,
Peg

Im heading out of town for nearly three weeks otherwise I would not mind doing it at all.  if you send me the guys name and bike, I might even know him or the bike though.  Peggy has full run of my tools and shop if her and paul need to borrow anything to run some tests.  as for getting the bike out your way, if you want it quick i am not sure but if you want to store it at my place till you can get here or next time I or possibly paul (youd have to ask him) come out to PG, then it could be cheap and easy.  Storage at my place would be free.  Peggy if your reading, you know where to put it in the bike shed next to yours.  Just call and let Brye know your dropping it off.

Any thing to help others with their bike addiction. (I think they call that an enabler dont they?)

This is the same bike I was wheeling and dealing over, I was talking a trade with the seller, my Astrovan for his Yamaha, he has seen my Astrovan(Friday Feb.22)as he was in PG visiting relatives. He stopped in Vanderhoof on his way home to Terrace. I have not seen his bike , only pics.....He is supposed to let me know in a few days....he did say he had a possible buyer for cash.....so he would like to wait and see what happens there.I am also leary about not seeing the bike in person or hearing it , or a compression check , but?????????...When I met up with the seller here in Vanderhoof, he didn't seem to know much about the bike,He said it was quite a heavy bike, which it is not(lighter than a Honda CB750,) making me think was he being a bit shady.Talking to this guy made me think that he might not even be a bike rider He told me his uncle owned Queensway Auto(if that means anything)  later No bike Mike

Mike if the engine was "rebuilt" I would want to know by whom and ask to see the bill or at least receipts for parts. This is a complicated engine -one mistake and boom!! Buyer beware. CHEERS.

Yeah I sort of got a bad impression when he kept saying it was mint then finding there are less than mint things like that seat.  I do appreciate you all being willing to help as you can.  The whole thing is off for me and I will let him know by email right away, so his cash buyer will be gone.  I have a real good reason....I bought a car instead and have no reserve cash anymore....was getting a bad feeling about this whole thing anyway.  thanks all. ;)

I have owned 2 Camaros so far and they have been good cars.  I sold my 94 when I was out of work.  It would go 150mph and get 30+mpg highway, an economical hot rod.  Things are much better money wise now so I started shopping around.  I settled on a 2002 Z28 with 53,600km on it.   (By the way the only thing I like about the latest camaro is the 425 HP it makes)   The owner says his is in near mint condition and the photos back that up.  The guy sounded trustworthy, says the car was for his wife but she contines to not be able to drive it due to a bad leg.  He had it on Kijiji and I called him to get some info but at that time I was more interested in an SS due to better HP ratings.
I have been looking into LS1 motors and found the SS cars have the same motor and make the extra HP with bolt ons.  So a regular Z28 would be fine.  I then see his car on Ebay and 3 days into a 10 day auction the bidding is near what he was asking on Kijiji.  (His ad said 'such a deal', and after seeing the bidding take off quickly I now believed him, haha)  I am thinking oh boy I should have went for it.  Long story short:  I emailed him about the car and  another person he knows in Montreal wanted it and made him an offer, he was not into shipping it.  He took my offer of what he was asking in his original ad because I can go get it.
I remember looking at those cars in the showrooms....now 11 years later I am getting one for 30% of the original sticker price (he has has the original build sheet for the car).   It is on Vancouver Island near my relatives so that gives me a reason to go visit them also.  He knows my nephew, I called him and he further confirmed this guy can be trusted in how he describes the car.  So thats my story, yes I am excited about getting another Camaro...we are in the process of getting the money and papers worked out.  Then he says he will deliver it to my sister's place where it will wait for me.  I'll head down there when hopefully most of the rocks from winter are off the roads....2 months?

I have been an f-body fan forever. First one owned was a 1978 Trans-Am. Traded a truck for it. Bit of a beater and my hot rod buddies laughed when I first got it.  Was working in Mackenzie and staying in honeymoon creek with my aunt and uncle. Had full access to the then Argo shop. Month of evenings and all my extra money and not only did they stop laughing at how it looked they ended up sucking my tailpipe- hard! Whooped em' good. Had two 1982 Z-28s. One was mint cherry stock, the other a warmed up 350 with a Muncie 4 gear.$3000 into the motor and swapped it all into the pretty one.  Fast car. Miss them both and have thought about another but can barely find time to ride my bike. You'll have to take me for a ride sometime. CHEERS.

I will be glad to give you a ride in it Fast1.  As I mentioned elswhere 2wheel...I do like Miatas and see there is a kit to put an LS1 motor into them...that would be wild.....I have looked at them on line and it is amazing how at home those motors look in that car.  I still like the option of taking passengers along for rides, etc so even though the back seats are small...I am glad to have a car that has them.
The rebuilt motor talk on this Fazer came from another bike that I was looking into last fall.  It was rebuilt by the deceased father of the guy who sold or is selling it in PG.  This guy in Terrace told me his is not that bike.  Who can know for sure....

You know I have bought used vehicles all my life and almost exclusively from the actual owner, not someone who is 'turning' a profit.  At one point in our communication I asked for the previous owner's name and got nothing....if this guy has had it only one summer I want to talk to the person he got it from....anyway.... I am glad I am no longer interested and it goes to show that you really have to try and not let your emotions get control of you when scopeing out any vehicle....make sure things are what the owner claims them to be.  Lie or exagerate to me and you have lost me.  I can not trust anything you say after that.  The used car dealership connection makes sense here, it starts to ad up.  Used car salesmen are not my favorite types....(an understatement, haha)

Time to weigh in I guess. I have been taken by used car dealers and also by the "good old private individual" as well. There is a saying that goes something like this...screw me once shame on you, screw me twice shame on me.  In most cases if I had done my due diligence I would not have been taken.  It isn't really fair to tar everyone with the same brush. There are good sellers and dishonest sellers as well. I buy and sell things, hopefully making a few dollars along the way. How else could I afford to buy the bikes I like. So it helps to support my hobby. If you buy something for what you think is a fair price then what does it matter if the other guy got it for a cheaper price. If I were to buy cheap in Van and sell for more in P.G. so what. Nobody is making anyone buy anything for any price.  Does this make me a bad guy? I would like to think not.

Oops, have to go now, my soapbox is starting to crumble.  Ken.

Nothing wrong with turning a car, bike or two...we all dream of getting that great buy and perhaps selling it for more.  This one person however calls this bike his baby and mint.  Well that to me is slightly deceptive in that he only had it a few months and it has a patched seat at least.  It is not his baby, it is his concubine...especially if he is moving vehicles around trying to better his chances of selling them.  I'd rather buy from the person who had it for 5 years or more.  Not someone who exagerates and is peddling wares.  If it was as described (mint) then I would be thinking differently.  You sure do have to watch the private seller also, choose wisely, be discerning.  I am just saying this seller is not for me.
